A distinct category under debt fund is Credit Risk Fund (CRF). This mutual fund invests in mid to long-term debt instruments and low rated bonds with an aim of generating a higher yield. 65 percent of the asset is invested in corporate bonds having rating AA or below. CRF was earlier known as Credit Opportunity Funds. The fund invests in low rated bonds which have higher risk and generate high returns. They generate 2 to 3 percent higher returns as compared to risk-free corporate bonds.
