Abu Dhabi 5 Must Not Miss Activities – Bask in the Local Culture

There are so many things to see and do in Abu Dhabi but try and fit these activities on your itinerary to have the most diverse possible experience.

1

Desert Tours

The deserts are something synonymous with Middle Eastern holidays, and this experience is a must, even when visiting Abu Dhabi. The never-ending expanses of sand provide beautiful sceneries, which can be enjoyed in many ways, a few favourites being on a camel back tour, or dune bashing in a fast, off road vehicle. There are several tour groups with whom visitors can explore these deserts, so don't leave this adventure off the list of things to do in Abu Dhabi.

2

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre

This mosque provides a unique opportunity for non-muslims to enjoy and admire the wonders of the Islamic world, at one of the largest mosques in the world. The mosque isn't an ancient one, and was opened in 2008, but it has been beautifully designed merging different influences from the Islamic world, namely Ottoman, Mamluk and Fatimid styles. The elegant structure has more than 80 domes and a thousand pillars across it and is adorned in a large amount of stunning white marble. Visitors to the mosque can enjoy a guided tour, where they can learn the details behind this beautiful place of worship. Remember however that this is a sacred place, and abide by the required etiquette, including dressing appropriately.

3

Heritage Village

Though it is a modern city, visitors will indeed enjoy a glimpse at how Abu Dhabi was in the past, and the Heritage Village is the ideal place to visit for this. It forms a small oasis into which visitors can enter to step back in time and enjoy the local traditions at the museum on the premises or watch or join local craftsmen as they demonstrate various skills passed down through the generations.

4

Mangrove National Park

This park provides a green getaway unexpected for a Middle Eastern city, and it is protected by the Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency. While from some parts of it you do see views of the city skyline, the park is removed from the bustling city, and is home to a diverse range of wildlife. There are fish, crabs and various types of birds like flamingos and herons that inhabit the park, and visitors may even be able to spot turtles and types of Marine mammals. There are various tour operators who take visitors out on the water in kayaks and other boats, but make sure they are authorized to do so. Visitors who enjoy this greenery opt to stay at Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara, one of the 5 star hotels in Abu Dhabi located near the park.

5

Ferrari World

A Ferrari inspired theme park may sound too good to be true, but the worlds one and only theme park based on the brand is in fact located in Abu Dhabi. Visitors to this state-of-the-art indoor theme park will find lots of things to do, including a long list of rides inspired by the brand and its vehicles. Among these thrills the most daring of guests will be happy to find the fastest roller coaster in the world, though there are also rides especially suited for younger visitors as well. Additionally, there are options for entertainment, dining and shopping at the park, which fans of the Ferrari brand will love.
