Both State and Central Government had invested heavily on infrastructure by building new roads, renovating old roads, enabling basic amenities like water, sewerage, electricity, hospitals, telecommunication networks and commercial business facilitates in both rural and urban areas for a better living condition. Villages that lacked even the basic road or electricity facility are now being converted into software hubs with all kind of modern amenities inbuilt that's making the city's radius expanding steadily in the past 5 years. Generally while constructing a house or building, the property is constructed at an elevation of 3 feet - 4 feet high above the natural earth level. Due to various reasons when the land level is lower than the road level its prudent to increase this height from 5 feet - 7 feet since its natural that the road thickness may be increasing ( at least by 9 - 10 inches) every time when a new road is laid over the old road layer. Sometimes, due to lack of proper sewage infrastructure, the near by waste water or rain water may clog around the house and may enter the ground floor house leading to various adverse situation. Various construction repairing and renovating firms use different technologies. While some use manually-operated jacks, others rely on hydraulic systems and some use steel girders or beams that go under the property to pull it. Before starting the actual work, a structural investigation of a house is undertaken, which helps in determining mass and stability of the building. This is followed by testing of soil and material used for construction of foundation, pillars and walls.
Simultaneously, an architectural design and building development plan from a professional architect is chalked out to determine the expense, required time for elevation, and the final product. Once the plan is ready, people start digging up the topsoil to approach the foundation of the building, which is then separated from the walls and the pillars. Steel beams or jacks, manual or hydraulic, are used to evenly lift the house to a desired level. An average Indian house may need around 300 jacks to lift and suspend the house in air.
Here, the house or building is suspended in air while a new foundation is constructed beneath it based on the soil condition and structural drawings. This may take 30-45 days for the new foundation to get settled properly before the elevated house is connected with the new foundation with new walls.
Before undertaking the project the age of the building, number of floors and kind of construction need to be thoroughly investigated and examined to avoid any major issues. Presently, based on the latest technologies and machinery around we can elevate houses that are up to 40 -50 years old and having ground plus four floors or less.
