Food Products to Avoid During Your Period

Being a woman can sometimes be way too hard. Especially during the one week a month when you have your period. The amount of discomforting symptoms a woman feels on her premenstrual and menstrual phases is numerous and they can vary greatly. What many don’t realize is that they can ease this discomfort significantly by rearranging their diet during those days.

Some products have the ability to worsen some menstrual conditions. Avoiding them in the days of your period will help you get through it better. You can come back to them when these days are over. You will be surprised to feel much better simply because of excluding the following food from your daily menu.

Refined food

Refined food is mostly made of unhealthy carbs. Our body burns them very fast, and then we feel hungry and tired. This is an additional discomfort that you don’t want to add to your period cramps. Besides, they contain sugar that is to blame for your mood swings and fatigue.
Things to avoid:

  • White bread
  • Macaroni
  • Snacks
  • Sweets
  • Junk food Replace them with whole grain products that are minimally processed. You will feel much better!

Fried and fat foods

Large amounts of such foods in your daily menu can launch an inflammatory process in your body. People who consume such foods on a daily basis have an increased level of the C-reactive protein in their liver. This will increase feelings of discomfort during your period.
Things to avoid:

  • Any sort of fries and chips
  • Fast food
  • Fatty meat
  • Cheese and fatty dairy
  • Any products containing saturated oil Replace them with healthy fats like Extra Virgin olive oil, avocado or Omega-3 fats. If you eat dairy products let them be low-fat or fat-free.

Salted food

Excess amounts of salt in the body interferes with the normal water balance. This will cause swells, bloating, and increase the arterial pressure. Make it easier for your body by avoiding these food items during your period:

  • Salted snacks
  • Pickles
  • Ready sauces
  • Smoked meat
  • Cheese
  • Canned food Eat only fresh products and choose natural essences for dressing your dishes.

You can mistakenly think that it will make you relax and reduce your discomfort but in fact, it will only make things worse. It can increase your period cramps up to the level of dysmenorrhea – an abnormal menstrual pain. Besides, it can interfere with your normal sleep cycle and you will be lacking the rest you need so much.

Caffeine’s action on your body during the days of your period may vary. On one hand, it can boost your energy throughout the day. On the other, it makes your cortisol level jump up which won’t let you sleep. To minimize unwanted effects, you can drink a cup of coffee in the morning but avoid consuming it in excess or towards the evening.
