5 things to try in Blue Bay Mauritius – enjoy the tropical paradise

Blue Bay is a tropical paradise, with beautiful beaches and plenty to do for fun in the sun. This list of the best things to do in the area will have you day dreaming about a visit.

1

Beaches

It cannot be denied that a large part of a holiday to Blue Bay in Mauritius will be spent on the beach, but with such amazing beaches, you won't want to leave! Located on the South-Eastern coast of the island, this area has some of the most beautiful beaches in the entire country, so much so that some of the world's finest hotel brands such as the popular Minor Hotels are setting up in the area so more visitors can enjoy its splendour. While there are many other beaches to explore close by, the Blue Bay beach is a popular option among tourists as it has inviting waters in a heavenly shade of blue, from which colourful corals can easily be accessed.

2

Boat Tours

If you decide that you don't want to spend your entire holiday on the beach, why not head out onto the stunning blue waters in the area instead. Take a boat tour on your choice of boat, from a speed boat to a catamaran, and venture the seas and maybe even dive into the water to explore its depths or to snorkel.

3

Blue Bay Marine Park

When there appeared to be damage to the local coral reefs taking place, a part of the coral reefs in the Blue Bay area of Mauritius were given protected status in 1997, thus forming this marine park. Conservation efforts have ensured that the rich underwater life here has been able to thrive, and visitors who explore these underwater wonders will be able to see a large variety of coral, in all shapes and sizes. These reefs are at a depth of approximately 5.5 meters underwater, and can be explored by glass bottom boat, though you may prefer snorkelling so you can see them up close.

4

Ile aux Aigrettes

This small island made up of coralline limetone is a nature enthusiasts paradise. The island is covered in rich dry coastal forest, which once covered a large part of the country. Due to large scale conservation efforts since the island was declared a nature reserved about half a century ago, there are various species of rare flora and fauna that inhabit the island. This includes interesting birds, reptiles and amphibians. The island can be enjoyed though trekking through it, ideally on a guided tour so you won't get lost and can make it a great learning opportunity. However, be mindful do not litter or damage the island in any way.

5

Try the local cuisine

The food in Mauritius is a hit with those who visit, and this is no less so in the Blue Bay area. There are gastronomically delicious treats from all across the world to indulge in as you enjoy a brilliant coastal vacation. For flavourful local food visitors can check out Jonquille Maryse, an eclectic outdoor restaurant run by welcoming staff. A favourite dining spot in the area is Blue Bamboo, where visitors can enjoy mouth-watering Italian cuisine, or Le Jardin de Beau Vallon, which is popular for its stunning location in a colonial estate surrounded by greenery. For any avid foodie, the meals you have in Blue Bay will definitely be a highlight of the trip.
