Oyster, Octopus or Lobster: Seafood in the Cayman Islands with a Classic Venetian Touch

Oyster, Octopus or Lobster: Seafood in the Cayman Islands with a Classic Venetian Touch

Whether you are on the lookout for the freshest seafood, refreshing tropical beverages or just a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea, Bacaro easily fits the bill. Our menu includes oysters, crabs, scallops and octopus, and even though you are in Grand Cayman, you can indulge in traditional Venetian food paired with a nice glass of wine in a Caribbean paradise.

At Bacaro, we offer small and big plates that are sure to appeal to every appetite. If you enjoy spicy food, the crispy lobster bites with a Scotch bonnet-paprika aioli should do the trick. Another favourite is our citrus crusted scallops with roasted shitake and tomato coulis. For our twist on a popular Venetian presentation, try the grilled octopus with broccoli puree, squid ink crispies and poached local tomatoes.
You can also savour fresh oysters as well as an oyster bloody Caesar shot at our waterfront restaurant in the Cayman Islands.

“BIGOLI” ALL’ANATRA…. a taste of Veneto in Cayman

“BIGOLI” ALL’ANATRA…. a taste of Veneto in Cayman

If you are looking for a fine dining experience with amazing views, then look no further than Bacaro in the Cayman Island Yacht Club. As one of the most authentic Cayman Island Italian restaurants, you can enjoy delicious Venetian inspired dishes, innovative cocktails and fantastic wines in a beautiful waterfront ambience.

Venetian cuisine is more than great fish!

My home town, Venice is rightly recognised for its amazingly diverse and high quality seafood…but if you venture into the surrounding waterways leading to the Venetian lagoon, you will discover an amazing breeding ground for a wide variety of wildfowl.

Bigoli…a special Venetian pasta

Each region in Italy has its own type of pasta. In Veneto, our signature pasta (and my mamma`s speciality) is “bigoli.”

Comfort doesn`t have to compromise on quality

Whether joining us for a fine dining meal, or just a drink, snack or dessert, at our waterfront restaurant in Cayman, you can enjoy the perfect blend of sophistication and warm hospitality.

Its Official...Gin is really Italian!

Its Official...Gin is really Italian!

Despite popular belief that the origins of gin lie in Holland, it is Italy that can lay claim to this most delicious spirit. Along Italy’s Salerno Coast in 1050 AD, Monks blended locally foraged juniper (“ginepro”, in Italian) with spirit in the Monastery kitchens to create what we now know as Gin as a medicinal spirit.

So that`s why Bacaro, recognized as one of the best restaurants in the Cayman Islands, is offering a special gin menu on Saturday afternoons between 4 PM until 7 PM. Gin bars have been a big hit in Europe and the USA for the past few years, but Bacaro is the only Waterfront restaurant in the Cayman Islands to offer a special Gin cocktail menu paired with authentic Venetian appetizers and mellow acoustic live music.

Bacaro’s 2nd Anniversary: Join Us For a Commemorative Drink

Bacaro’s 2nd Anniversary: Join Us For a Commemorative Drink

When Barney and I decided to open a restaurant together back in Spring 2015, our dream was to create a dining experience for our guests that was truly memorable. The Bacaro vision started with lots of long distance Skype calls (Barney was still in Switzerland), numerous “back of the envelope restaurant design sketches” and plenty of head scratching as to how I could bring classic Venetian food to the Cayman Islands. After a lot of hard work, and plenty of sleepless nights…we opened Bacaro at the beautiful Cayman Island Yacht club in February 2017. Yes…our ‘baby” is officially two years old, and we couldn`t be prouder.

All It Takes is One Bite - 3 Recommendations by Our Crudo Specialist

All It Takes is One Bite - 3 Recommendations by Our Crudo Specialist

A perfect meal is what you should expect any time you step into Bacaro.

With luxe seating overlooking the Caribbean Sea and the sailboats at the Cayman Islands Yacht Club, it is a wonderful place to start your journey toward some of the best fine dining in the Cayman Islands. Our menu offers a thrilling diversity of flavours and ingredients that span Venetian “cicchetti” to crudo, glorious mains to tantalizing desserts.

If you are wondering, "What is crudo?" let us tell you it translates to “raw” in Italian. The flavours of raw and cured meat or fish are brought alive with the help of fresh herbs, vegetables and fruits.

In the kitchen, we have Praveen Singh Rathore, our crudo specialist, who shows his understanding that simplicity is as compelling as complexity. Top it off with his solid knife skills along with the ability to enhance the flavours using only a few key ingredients. This is one of the reasons why Bacaro is fondly referred to as amongst the best Cayman restaurants.

And when the specialist lists his favourites, you should not miss out on them.

  • Tuna Tartare, Avocado Puree, Mango Salsa
  • Coffee-infused Cured Salmon, Local Greens, Fennel, Local Tomatoes, Citrus Oil
  • Smoked and Black Pepper rubbed Wahoo Carpaccio, Watercress, Pomegranate, Toasted Pistachio

Savour the Best of Venice - ‘Cicchetti’ in the Cayman Islands

Savour the Best of Venice - ‘Cicchetti’ in the Cayman Islands

When in Cayman, do as the Venetians do: Head out to a bàcaro for some delectable small bites or nibbles (“cicchetti”) paired with a nice glass of wine. In this case, head to Bacaro, one of the best restaurants in the Cayman Islands, for these tantalizing bites, small or large plates, all prepared with Venetian flair.

The word for the tradition of serving these kinds of “appetizers” in Venice goes back some 500 years, as the ancient name for a place to stop for a quick drink or a bite. The tradition continued into more modern eras, when workers stopped for a drink on the way home and some inexpensive nibbles were added so they could drink a bit longer!

To a point, Venetian social life is coined in an apt phrase - "Andémo béver un'ombra," which loosely translated means "Let's go have a glass of wine”. This invitation widely extends to having a good conversation with friends, concluding business and enjoying a relaxing end to the day.

What many locals and visitors are realising is that it is becoming the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean. The latest arrival to the Cayman restaurant scene is “BACARO” …the only authentic Venetian inspired restaurant in the Southern Caribbean.

Bacari are unique eateries that originated in Venice, Italy. They were wine bars where gondoliers and merchants would sip wine while enjoying affordable nibbles known as Cicchetti. BACARO brings this traditional philosophy to its stunning yacht club location in Grand Cayman.

BACARO offers outstanding menu choices served with warm and friendly hospitality in a beautiful scenic environment.

Whet Your Appetite with an Aperitif in the Cayman Islands

Whet Your Appetite with an Aperitif in the Cayman Islands

Enhance your dining experience at Bacaro, a famous restaurant in Grand Cayman, at the Cayman Islands Yacht Club, with an “aperitif”, a drink before dinner that stimulates your appetite and teases your taste buds for the meal to come.

Aperitif is a French word derived from the Latin ‘aperire’ meaning “to open’.” An aperitif is literally meant “to open” the digestive system before a meal. It is usually a dry rather than sweet alcoholic drink, and typically may be vermouth, champagne, gin or dry sherry.

A Brief History of the Aperitif

As you approach fine dining in the Cayman Islands, be sure to start with an aperitif. While the use of aperitifs was first mentioned by a 5th century monk, the invention of vermouth in 1796 by Antonio Carpano in Turin, Italy, kick-started its popularity.

At Bacaro, we offer a wide selection of exciting aperitifs including unique cocktails created by our expert mixologists, wines by the glass, carafe or bottle and of course the typical Venetian aperitif “Aperol spritz”.
