When I think of Caribbean fine dining, I think, first of all, of fresh fish. Digestif, anyone?
After dinner drinks are the most pleasant way to end a meal, enhance the entire culinary experience and extend a leisurely evening with my companions.
To be sure, my favourite way of topping off an evening of waterfront fine dining in the Cayman Islands is with a sophisticated after dinner drink. It ‘s so delightful to sip a sweet cordial or savour a single-malt Scotch while watching the sun slowly melt into the horizon over the Caribbean Sea. There’s no finer way to appreciate both the beauty of the environment and the soul-warming smoothness of a special rum, bourbon or cordial.
Fortunately, there’s an extensive after dinner drinks menu to choose from, including rare bourbons, a vintage port collection, limited edition liquors and delectable dessert wines.

One of the finest restaurants in Grand Cayman, Grand Old House, has been a Cayman Islands favourite for many years. Our restaurant was among one of 1,215 from more than 75 countries recognized for “lists that display excellent breadth across multiple regions and/or significant vertical depth of top wines, along with superior presentation,” according to Wine Spectator.

Whether you are heading out for lunch or dinner, there is no better way to enjoy the experience than by sitting down to an expertly prepared meal surrounded by friends and family, or a combination of both, at our waterfront restaurant in the Cayman Islands.
Family dining is accepted the world over, across cultures, as the most rewarding experience of all. Breaking bread and sharing a meal with those you love and are loved by, with lively conversation and perhaps a glass of wine, is one of life’s greatest pleasures.
Whether for the best lunch or dinner in the Cayman Islands, the meal may often start with soup or salad. These first courses are not only tasty, but also healthy, as they may keep you from over-indulging during the main meal and, regrettably, ending up with a very uncomfortable too-full feeling. In our tropical climate in Cayman, we recommend such fare as cold soup of the day, or , creamy cheese served with local tomatoes, arugula salad, roasted pine nuts and roasted parma ham, dressed in aged balsamic reduction and basil oil, with crostini.

Pasta, that well-known staple of Italian cuisine, is a favourite the world over. It’s the common ingredient in any number of delicious dishes, and it comes in a wide variety of shapes – long, short, flat, wide and decorative. It can be a side dish or a main dish; it may be stuffed, baked or boiled, added to any number of soups, or it may be layered and lavished in sauce. In other words, it’s very versatile!
The earliest reference to pasta is found in the first century writings of the Roman poet Horace, who mentioned “lagana,” or fine sheets of fried dough, according to the authors of “Pasta: the Story of a Universal Food.” In the early fifth century, a cookbook included a dish of “lagana” as layers of dough with meat stuffing – which many consider to be the precursor of what we now call lasagna.
From there, as they say, the rest is history. And to top it all off, with the invention of tomato sauce in the late 18th century, pasta really took off! Today we enjoy pasta in all of its many forms and flavours, and pasta dishes are now part of Caribbean fine dining. If you’re wondering where to eat pasta in the Cayman Islands, look no further. Our waterfront restaurant in Grand Cayman offers pasta dishes to suit every palate. For instance, our lunch menu features vegetarian pasta, made with fusilli, roasted pumpkin, eggplant, mushroom, garlic, pine nuts, fresh basil, chili flakes, extra virgin olive oil and shaved manchego cheese. We also offer a lovely lobster risotto with saffron, spinach and tomato.

Although many Caribbean islands have sought to lay claim to the title of culinary capital of the region, the Cayman Islands for some years now have been recognized as holding that honour.
Cayman’s Tourism Department notes that the culinary offerings on island have earned international recognition in such publications as Forbes, Food & Wine, USA Today, Vogue magazine and the Robb Report, among others. In addition, Cayman’s culinary team brought home gold medals from the 2018 Caribbean National Culinary Competition in Miami.
The local cuisine is hailed for its variety of flavors, the freshest fish - in the “sea-to-table” experience - and the freshest produce, bringing diners the farm-to-table experience. Restaurants in the Cayman Islands take great pride in working with local fishermen and farmers to bring the very best ingredients to their customers. According to tourism officials, there are more than 200 restaurants across the three Cayman Islands, offering diverse culinary experiences to please every palate.
Grand Old House is proud to be one of those restaurants, featuring some of the best food in the Cayman Islands. Situated along the Seven Mile Beach corridor, Grand Old House has been known for great food since 1969, when our historic plantation house was bought by several partners who turned it into a restaurant.
