Lifetime dual entry outdoor storage shed versus Outbuilders

Lifetime dual entry outdoor storage shed versus Outbuilders is the subject of this article. We have written many blogs about the difference between us, Suncast and Rubbermaid. Lifetime sheds are made with Polyethylene. A fancy name for plastic. Polyethylene,“…is a thermoplastic polymer with variable crystalline structure and an extremely large range of applications depending on the particular type”.source
Polyethylene is not a natural product. It is made from oil. 90% of all homes are constructed with wood and for a good reason. Wood is the only breathable clean energy source which helps safeguards our environment. In case of a fire, plastic gives off harmful gas emissions while the melted plastic will take years to decompose.
According to Studies and models like the Athena Life-Cycle Assessment,“…show that wood is by far the superior choice for building in all categories: total energy used to build, occupy, and dispose of; air and water emissions produced during manufacturing; solid waste generated in production and recovery; greenhouse gases produced during manufacturing; ecological resource use.” source
These plastic sheds are extremely expensive comparable to wooden shed costs. They look good, however. Especially if you’re using them for an outdoor bike shed, play house or for tools. You cannot convert these into a tiny house or a cabin if the need comes. In example, they are not designed to add sheet rock, insulation and electricity or wiring. They also are not good for green houses as there are no windows and if there are some windows, they are pretty small.
A Lifetime dual entry outdoor storage shed is basically the same thing as Suncast and/or Rubbermaid sheds. Each company uses a different name for “plastic”. It’s just a gimmick in our opinion. Property values do not change with plastic sheds. However, they can increase with wooden sheds as studies have shown. Many Central Oregonians have turned their outbuildings into she-sheds, man caves and even a tiny home.
If you want to save on cost, a Lifetime shed is not the answer. They are the most expensive plastic sheds out there. Thousands and thousands. So consider all of the options before you invest in a plastic shed. A wooden outbuilding always beats plastic hands down and that is why we do what we do. We understand the outbuilding need in Central Oregon which is why we do what we do.
