Located away from the city centre of Yangon, you will come across a number of parks and lakes; each precinct is silently beautiful and perfect sanctuaries for enjoying nature in all its splendour. Forget the hustle and bustle of the busy city as you explore the following locations.

Kandawgyi Lake

This lake started out as a reservoir constructed during the colonial period of Myanmar, Kandawgyi Lake is one of the city's most salubrious precincts. There you are treated to wide open spaces, a park scattered with many trees, a vast green and a large replica of a Karaweik; which is a royal barge, found on the eastern edge of the park. Easy to reach from a well-located hotel in Yangon, this precinct is perfect for rejuvenating mind, body and soul. Besides, the area is well-serviced by a number of restaurants and cafes, where you can enjoy everything from a meal to views of Shwedagon Pagoda across the water.

Inya Lake

Located around 15 to 20 minutes from Sedona Hotel Yangon, Inya Lake is perfect for indulging in a number of activities. On offer, there are leisure activities of golfing, rowing, swimming and even sailing. On the west side of the lake is the Yangon Sailing Club, where one can enjoy sunset drinks, and across from the hotel is a driving range, which guests find very convenient. The lake is located next to the Yangon University and is loved for its romantic atmosphere as well as, sights of huge mansions belonging to the rich and famous citizens of Yangon.

Peoples Park

Peoples Park located to the west of Shwedagon Pagoda is a tranquil haven for getting away from the crowds and noise of Yangon city. The park is home to a number of attractions such as a vintage Myanmar Airlines aeroplane, an old steam locomotive and a planetarium. Entrance to the park is free; you can access the place via Ahlone Road.

Hlawaga Park

Not located within the city centre, a visit to this park is the perfect excuse for getting out of the city, and is ideal for enjoying a day trip away from your Yangon hotel. A natural sanctuary, the park is about an hour's drive from the city centre and features a bunch of charming bungalows dotted around a glistening lake. Animal lovers will be thrilled to observe critters wandering around the park, as hippos, elephants, deer and monkeys have made their home within this sanctuary. There is an entry fee to the park, which closes at 5 pm. Enjoy your time in Myanmar exploring and absorbing the history, culture and traditions, with loads of breaks at the above listed green sanctuaries.
