List of Lakes and Parks in Yangon – Tranquil Environs Located Far from the Crowds

This lake started out as a reservoir constructed during the colonial period of Myanmar, Kandawgyi Lake is one of the city's most salubrious precincts. There you are treated to wide open spaces, a park scattered with many trees, a vast green and a large replica of a Karaweik; which is a royal barge, found on the eastern edge of the park. Entrance to the park is free; you can access the place via Ahlone Road.

Not located within the city centre, a visit to this park is the perfect excuse for getting out of the city, and is ideal for enjoying a day trip away from your Yangon hotel. A natural sanctuary, the park is about an hour's drive from the city centre and features a bunch of charming bungalows dotted around a glistening lake. Animal lovers will be thrilled to observe critters wandering around the park, as hippos, elephants, deer and monkeys have made their home within this sanctuary. There is an entry fee to the park, which closes at 5 pm.
