Have you explored the beauty of Northern Kerala?
Serene Journeys pick of the season: Thalassery formerly Tellicherry, the cultural & the commercial capital of the Malabar Coast in Kannur in South India. Here you will be venturing deep into the practice of Kalaripayattu, the almost forgotten Martial Art.
In the colonial era Thalassery was the Centre of learning in north Kerala. Did you know that cricket, now a national obsession, was first played here? That the first cake to be baked in India was baked here? Don’t miss your chance to witness one of the oldest existing martial arts in the world, Kalaripayattu. Watch as competitors fly through the air, brandishing all manner of tribal weaponry. The bell metal lamps are lit, lining each step in the Kalari leading to Bhagavathi, the Goddess of Kalari, the embodiment of courage. The students pay their homage to the Goddess before & after every practice. Let the competition begin!
