The Ultimate Trekking Packing List – Be Prepared While Trekking

When you go trekking make sure you are thoroughly prepared. The biggest crisis in a trekking expedition is not having what you need when you are in the middle of nowhere. Below are the essentials.

1

Backpacks and Bags

If you plan on doing a trekking trip, the first thing you will need to get your hands on is a proper backpack. Keep in mind that you will be carrying everything you need in this backpack, so it is important that the backpack is not only spacious but also very comfortable on your back as well as your shoulders. It should be large enough to accommodate everything you need but not too large that it will weigh you down. However, the longer your trek the more you will have to lug around. Apart from the backpack, you may need a camera bag (especially if you are bringing your DSLR with you) and a dry sack to protect valuables from severe weather.

2

Trekking attire

The type of clothes you pack for your trekking expedition depends largely on your trekking destination. Warmer climates call for short, light and cotton clothes whereas trekking in colder climates demands thicker attire and good jackets etc. Try and forecast the weather the day before you head off on your expedition and pack accordingly. But that said, always carry a jacket and a raincoat, even if you are trekking in a warm place; the weather can sometimes be unpredictable. Make sure you bring sufficient underwear and socks especially if you are trekking for a couple of days. Put on some hardy shoes for the trek but pack a pair of rubber thongs.

3

Sunscreen Hats and Sunglasses

Trekking exposes you to harsh weather, so it is always important that you remain adequately protected from the sun. Apply plenty of sunscreen with a high SPF and bring with your hats and sunglasses that so that you may use them as and when required.

4

Moisturizing cream and lip balms

The differing weather conditions that you may encounter during your hike may sometimes prove to be harsh on your skin. To counter this problem, make sure you thoroughly moisturize. Use gentle products that do not irritate the skin and every time you feel dry reapply some moisturizer on your skin. Apply a thick coating of lip balm at night so that your lips do not feel dry during the day.

5

First Aid

It is important that you are fit when embarking on your trek. To avoid feeling exhausted and tired make sure you start off with a good night's rest. It helps to be based at a comfortable resort especially if you are coming from far. For those trekking in Oman, a Salalah beach resort such as the Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara is worth considering. However, despite good rest accidents can happen. Always go prepared with basic first aid. Panadols, antacids, band-aids, disinfectants, bandages, alcohol rub and betadine are few of the medicines worth packing with you.
