Top 5 Beaches in Bahrain - Little known sandy shores

Bahrain may not be popular as a tropical beach destination, but there are quite a few places where you can dip your toes in the water and sit on the warmed sand.

1

Amwaj

Amwaj is not exactly a public beach, but is a reclaimed part of the islands. However, it does attract quite a few locals as well as travellers, especially over the weekends. While the beach surrounds the entire place, there are a few places that have access to the sea. Sea in those places is gentle enough for a swim or simply for a sit-in, allowing the waves to wash all over you. You can even watch the kite surfers from the shore.

2

Reef Island

Reef Island is a gorgeous beach that is accessible only to a particular crowd. Being one of the islands made popular by the luxury hotels in Bahrain, Reef Island is home to the popular Reef Resort Bahrain. It is a great place to sit back and watch the sunset, and even engage in some water sports. As most of the island is taken up by the resort, though, the most accessible parts of the beach serve as a private beach for the guests of the resort. You can always visit the island, though, and enjoy the views.

3

Arad Fort

A small stretch of beach with a big history, Arad Fort is a place that anyone can visit. It was established in 2008 in lieu of the National Day. The name of the beach derives from the old fort that extends on either side of the beach. It is a good place for a picnic, and even a quick lap or two in the water. However, it is designed to be a beach park, with a large area for walking and plenty of room to play on the sand. The ideal time to visit the beach is towards the evening when the sun is about to set, and the old ruins of the fort provides a gorgeous and romantic backdrop for an evening stroll.

4

Hidd

The beach at Hidd, too, is better suited as a picnic beach than as one for swimming. It is located opposite Prince Khalifa bin Salman Park. The beach is usually quite filled with locals, even during winter. Winter months are considered one of the better times to play beach games. It is easily accessible, and you will find a lot of young people hanging around Hidd beach.

5

Jazayir

Jazayir is among the few public beaches in Bahrain. As such, it is quite popular and almost always crowded. There is a kids' area where they can play and frolic. The sea here is good for a dip, and you would often find families and groups of people making their way here for large gatherings. You can have a BBQ here, as there are plenty of places and facilities made available. As it is a public beach, bikinis or other forms of revealing clothes, as well as consuming alcohol is not accepted at Jazayir.
