6 Rules for Mobile Website Design

These days, everyone’s constantly on their phones. If you’re a designer, this means you better know how to create great mobile websites. Since designing a website for phones is a little bit different than for desktops, I’m here in this video to share some tips. Here are 6 rules to keep in mind when building a mobile site.
Rule #1. Start with the desktop editor. When you create a website on Wix, this is your default editor. Don’t be tempted to edit the mobile version until you’ve finalized the desktop one. First perfect your desktop site and then switch over to mobile.
Rule #2 - Stick to the essentials! Mobile users are looking for something very specific, such as a phone number or the cost of a product they want to buy - and they don’t have time to waste. Cut to the chase and make your message clear from the get go. Keep only the content and images that help users understand what the businesses does. Everything else should go. Once you’ve decided what to keep, organize it. The mobile editor lets your reorder any of the elements without disturbing your desktop design. Put the most important ones on top, starting with a clear explanation of the business and call to action. Next, place all other site elements in decreasing order of importance. Remove any popups and remember that cool mouse over affects you have on desktop sites won’t work on mobile. Get rid of unnecessary forms, since they can be hard to fill out on a phone.
Rule #3.Make it easy for people to know where to click. Visitors shouldn’t have to think about how to find the information they’re looking for. It’s your job as a designer to make it crystal clear! Use big, bold buttons, with readable text. Put the business name or logo in the site header and make it clickable. One tap should take users home.
Rule #4: Make contact info impossible to miss. Add the Mobile Action Bar. This feature was specifically designed to help users call, email or follow a business on Facebook in one tap. Place the phone, email, address and social media links prominently on the mobile site, and on a dedicated contact page.
Rule #5 Resize text and images. Since mobile screens are small, websites look differently on them. For example, objects or text boxes that sit side by side on a desktop site will show up one on top of the other in mobile version. Reduce the size of anything that’s taking up too much space or might get cut off on mobile. But also be on the lookout for items that need to be bigger. Since mobile users scroll and tap with their fingers, you may need to increase the size of certain buttons. Finally, tweak the text alignment; the best alignment for mobile might be different than what works well on desktop.
Rule #6, choose colors carefully. You can change up the color scheme on a mobile site without affecting your desktop version. Think about the fact that mobile users may be outside in the sunshine where screens can be hard to see. Help them out by choosing colors that are easy to read in daylight. Go with a text color that contrasts starkly with the background - and keep in mind that dark text on a light background is easiest on the eyes. And finally, test every new mobile site on many devices. Check it out on different sized phones and tablets. Make sure it’s just right! Smartclicks Advertising Australia

Google has also decided this is the case, and is promoting sites that are mobile friendly in its search engine results pages on mobiles. But even if this were not the case, we would (and did) opt to design websites using responsive web design techniques for the simple reason that it is the most effective way to make sure your website is optimised for all devices being used. On a fundamental level, most desktop screens are orientated to landscape and most smartphones in portrait. Sure the phones get turned around, but having a site fixed in one position is clearly going to run into problems.smartclicks advertising
