Chaweng is the most popular tourist resort town in Koh Samui; it is the largest and most developed area, where a range of touristy allures await visitors out to have loads of fun. Sitting along the eastern edge of the island, Chaweng Beach is a huge sandy oasis, where one can enjoy a range of water-based activities. On offer, there is banana boat riding, kite surfing, snorkelling and parasailing. The area is well-serviced with a bevy of sunny cafes and restaurants, as well as, dive shops, and tour operators for booking further adventures across the waters.
Definitely one of the more 'prettier' beaches in Koh Samui, Taling Ngam is located just an hour from Chaweng Beach. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the island, this beach is surrounded by lush vegetation and offers scenic views of Ang Thong Marine National Park. Lamai Beach was at one time, a precinct favoured by backpackers and budget travellers; however, this beach, the second largest in Koh Samui, is now changed and just as charged-up as Chaweng. Here too, you will find a range of water activities as well as, restaurants, cafes, shops and other tourist-oriented activities and attractions; which come together with the usual crowds.
Maenam Beach is a place, which promises solitude and beachside attractions. Swaying palms and glistening waters, beckon visitors, who seem to prefer enjoying the beach on day visits. The sand is a soft powdery white while water is shallow and calm.
Located along the northern coast of Koh Samui, Bophut consists of two locations; these are Bophut Beach and the popular Fisherman's Village. Bophut Beach extends along the coast for several kilometres from the iconic Big Buddha statue to Maenam Beach, while Fisherman's Village is located towards the centre of Bophut Beach. This village is a must explore, home to vintage Chinese shop-houses and traditional fishing boats which can be seen doing their daily rounds.
Koh Phangan is best known for its Full Moon Parties. Apart from this enormous attraction, the beach there is ideal for sun worshipers to enjoy some time on the sand. Koh Tao, better known as Turtle Island, can be reached from here, and is ideal if you are up for some adventure.
