This, however, is the abbreviated version, for Bangkok, actually has the world's lengthiest name for a city. The name is a mouthful, to say the least, hence, the abbreviation. What is it? The Chao Phraya is the Cherry on the Cake

The Chao Phraya River is just as important as the River Thames is in London to the Thai's. Winding its way across the heart of the city, this is Bangkok's lifeblood and is better known as the 'River of Kings'. Once a main throughway, the river is a great attraction for tourists, with some of the best attractions lining its banks. In the 1500's a series of canals were built around the city, connecting to the river, in order to make travel faster and easier for locals. Exploring these canals or khlongs is quite a treat if you like a glimpse into the Bangkok of yore.
