Best Shopping Places in Guangzhou – Feel Free to Go on a Shopping Spree

Guangzhou in China is more common by the name Canton as it is simpler to pronounce for foreigners. With China looming as a giant manufacturer; the shopping opportunities in the country are immense.

1

Beijing Road

Strange as it may seem to have a street named Beijing in the southern coastal city of Guangzhou; this street does not merely exist, but it thrives. Most of the shopping areas are within a short distance from each other and not too far from the CBD. Beijing Road has two large malls which really seem endless from both inside and outside. There is no dearth of people who keep hopping in and out of these malls which are run by the state. These were put in place to establish China's interest in trading with the world some time ago. From books to leather goods, apparels and electronics, the two sides of the road are lined with stores, boutiques, shops and pedlars.

2

Taikoo

This is the high-end mall of the city and it is appropriately located close to places that are patronized by tourists such as the Ascott Guangzhou. It houses the most exclusive and expensive international labels when it comes to garments, shoes, accessories and watches. When compared to the other shopping areas and malls, the footfall at Taikoo is probably lower as it caters to the high-income earners, but that doesn't mean you would ever find it deserted. Its rooftop restaurant serves gourmet cuisine for discerning travellers and offers scintillating views of the city.

3

Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street

Located within a short walk from Beijing Road, this shopping street is meant for those who like a solid walk while they shop. Many of the shops and boutiques sell local labels which are completely manufactured in China. Munch on Cantonese snacks stop for coffee and meander slowly while you shop on this street to not only replenish your wardrobe but also observe the lifestyles and culture of the locals. The street is quite lively at night with most of the places remaining open till a bit before midnight. Accommodation in Guangzhou China can be found a short drive away from this area with many residential districts marked out just adjacent to the shopping regions. Hence, finding your way back home won't be difficult if you choose to stay out partying or shopping.

4

China Plaza

This isn't an exclusive shoppers' paradise, instead, it is meant to cater to the low and middle-income earners. Nevertheless, it offers the shopping experience in a clean, spruce and tidy environment within a building rather than out in the open. Don't allow the atmosphere to dissuade you from bargaining and get a few tips from the locals on how to land yourself great deals. The electronics floor of China Plaza is where most of the foreigners spend a bulk of their time as it has local and foreign items at competitive prices. Take part in the little competitions that are held at the mall to win yourself trinkets and discounts.
