Top 4 night markets in Bangkok - Experience the best night markets in the city!

Bangkok's night markets offer some of the best shopping experiences in the city, as well as offering a great opportunity for people watching. Here are the city's top 4 night markets to visit.

1

JJ Green Night Market

With a relaxed bohemian vibe that sets it apart from other hectic markets, JJ Green night market is probably one of the trendier night markets in Bangkok. Part flea market, part drinking spot for young locals, the best time to make the most of this market is between 5 pm to 11 pm, Thursday to Sunday when the bars are lively, and the market is buzzing with activity. The market consists of a combination of bars and shops, along with peddlers who lay out their wares at makeshift stalls or along the car park pavement. Most of the shops offer cheap clothes, and there are several that sell genuine vintage items like artwork, vinyl, old car models and other nick-knacks. If you head over to the car park you can find more obscure items that are literally sold out of people's cars and vans. You can find everything from old cameras, old ad posters, second-hand watches and other paraphernalia. Bargaining is acceptable here, however, prices are already low, so don't expect to big a discount.

2

Chang Chui Bangkok Plane Night Market

Famous for its location, as it is for its merchandise, the Chang Chui Bangkok plane night market is a combination of shops and restaurants, and some impressive art pieces, most of its made from recycled materials. The markets concept is "nothing is useless' and the many artists and vendors here have taken the concept to heart. The market is easy to spot thanks to the giant shell of an Airbus, another recycled piece, but as you explore further, you will come across several sculptures and other artworks. Besides the artsy vibe, there's also a wide selection of food available, including a restaurant that serves curated dishes with insects, while it may not be fine dining in Bangkok, the food is unique and worth sampling. Unlike other night markets, there's not a lot of clothing options here, but you can find a few original handprinted t0shirts, sold by the designers themselves, and fancy phone covers

3

Asiatique

If you want to experience the atmosphere of a night market, in the comfort of an air-conditioned space, Asiatique is the place to be. Located along the banks of the Chao Phraya River, not far from several hotels like Chatrium Residence Riverside Bangkok, for instance; Asiatique combines the variety of a night market with the comfort of a shopping mall. With over 1500 stores and over 40 restaurants, located inside and alfresco, you can easily spend a couple of hours exploring the area. Aside from all the shopping and eating, there are also several forms of entertainment taking place daily, such as Thai puppet shows and ladyboy cabaret.

4

Khao Shan Road

A common stopover location for travellers visiting nearby tourist sites like the Grand Palace or the Wat Arun temple, Khao Shan Road offers cheap handicrafts, souvenirs and great street food. During the day, the road is a laid-back area where visitors can casually check out shops and food vendors. At night, the road comes alive with flashing neon lights, an energetic crowd and lively street performers entertaining the masses.
