Being housed in a restored colonial building, the museum is managed by the National Archives of Singapore. The museum was opened on 15 February 2002 by the Singapore's deputy prime minister Tony Tan to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the fall of Singapore. The museum showcases artefacts, photographs maps and other objects that were recovered from the war sites.
