For many of the students, grasping concepts of Biology may be a daunting task or bewildering to say the least. In the present curriculum offered by educational institutions, Biology is mandatory. Initial apprehensions are quite common for anybody when they try to assimilate the gist of new subject.
Also, besides a dramatic improvement in the ability to calculate, both on the abacus and mentally, there is a beneficial ripple effect on other areas of learning. The first is an improvement of numerical memory, next memory in spatial arrangement and last advancement in solving general mathematical problems taught in elementary school, including the four fundamental arithmetic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and word problems.
Physics is based on a few concepts and fundamental relationships. But, before mastery of any of these comes the relevance of it as a subject. Until one understands how relevant something is to life, one’s desire to learn it is shallow.
When physics becomes relevant, you’re connected to it, touched by it and learn from it.
India has been credited with some advanced mathematical discoveries at a very early time compared to the rest of the world. It is a matter of great pride and honor for us that the early proponents of what we call modern mathematics, were jewels from India like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Bhaskara II, Varamhira, Mahavira, Madhava, Srinivasa Ramanujam just to name a few. India’s first satellite was in fact named after the renowned mathematician-astronomer Aryabhata.
What can Indians do? Well, we are rocket fliers, software engineers, cricketers, and curry eaters. This is the impression that many foreigners have about us! With a young population that’s bubbling with talent, we should have been called inventors, innovators, and discoverers. Sadly, that isn’t the case.
We Indians are a huge market for foreign technology. The Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Americans and even some dot-sized South Asian countries find a great number of consumers for their technologies. We have a huge appetite for technology, but we don’t make it here.
That was a song in the 1970s. The process of educating has come a long way from that. Children have a right to express themselves and learn in a manner that is comfortable for them. Though many things have changed, the presence of textbook has remained.
What is it with textbooks that make them so queer? Textbooks are coveted at the beginning of the academic year and become pariahs when the exam time approaches. Students eagerly see what they are about to learn in that year and they scan the textbooks with fervor. Somewhere down the lane, these books tend to lose their charm and they merely become solid masses.

Most of you think that records are made only by special people and it is not in the reach of a common people. Let me tell you, the journey up there was as difficult for me as it would be for any other student.
We tend to idolize the gifted children and seal the story; however, we tend to neglect the struggle, perseverance, and the passion involved in these pursuits. I am of the belief that every child is gifted and it is only for the mentors to identify the talent and nurture it.
