The Water Cycle

The following links assist with teaching the topic of the Water Cycle to a variety of elementary age students. Major concepts are covered to better explain what the Water Cycle is and why it is so important. The large amount of instructional strategies using technology create a fun and successful way to learn about science for any child.

The Water Cycle Diagram

The following link takes you to a kid friendly diagram of the Water Cycle. It uses pictures to accompany the major terms that are posted on the diagram. On the side of the diagram, you can find those same pictures as well as a definition to explain that specific term from the diagram. The definitions are easily understood and include only the most important information.

Ecosystems: The Water Cycle: StudyJams!

How does water get back up into the sky? This activity will teach students about the water cycle and how it works. After the students watch a video over the Water Cycle that uses cartoon characters that they are able to relate to, they can review the vocabulary terms that were used throughout the video by clicking each of them on the main page. There is also a link on the main page that they can click to test themselves. The test includes a few basic questions over the information and terms that were covered in the video.

This resource is an animated video that explains the four steps that the Water Cycle takes. After the video explaining the steps, there are interactive questions that the students can answer. When they have completed them all, they are rewarded a prize.

Water, Water Everywhere

What the different parts of the water cycle are, how water gets from one place to another, how long water spends in different places, and who needs water are some of the questions that can be answered throughout this kid friendly interactive link. The students will find Dewdrop by clicking on each of the areas of the map that show water. An introduction to the area will come up first with three additional readings that also explain more about that topic.

The Water Cycle Today

This video discusses the history of water and the processes that it takes as it moves around the Earth in the water cycle. You'll get an in-depth look at the major concepts that make up the Water Cycle which are condensation, precipitation, and evaporation. There are scenes and references that it make it interesting to the students in order to gain and keep their attention.

The students get the chance to let out some of their energy by getting up to sing and dance along with this video about the Water Cycle. The students are able to relate to the hip dance moves and the cool dialect that is used throughout the video.
