Reasons Johor Bahru Should Be Explored – An explorer's guide

Joho Bahru is the southernmost city in Malaysia and is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing cities in Malaysia. Here are some reasons you should explore Johor Bahru.

1

Danga Bay

If you're looking for a way to laze your day away on a bed of white sandy beaches and a view of the ocean, head over to Danga Bay.

2

Buy everything at RM. 2

A budget traveller's haven – this supermarket offers everything, from candy to crisps, stationary to glassware, all for a whopping RM 2! The retail chain is located in several places in Malaysia and is open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 6 pm, and on Saturdays, it's open from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. It's the perfect place to stack up on your dose of chips and chocolate!

3

Rusty Market

A night market in Malaysia, Pasar Karat is a large second-hand bazaar where you can buy anything and everything from steering wheels to clothes and antique ships. Bargaining is encouraged here, even though the prices are already cheap!

4

Midnight Snacks

If you're staying at Berjaya Waterfront Hotel or another popular Johor Bahru hotel in the area, and are looking for some midnight snacks, stroll along the streets and look for Lok Lok. This is a buffet of boiled snacks on skewers, which is either deep fried or grilled. Most of the time, the skewers are colour-coded according to their prices. It's the perfect snack! You'll be able to eat various skewered items from broccoli, fish, chicken or other meats.

5

Premium Shopping

If you're looking for a shopping experience with A.C. and floor tiles, head over to Johor Premium Outlets where you get a variety of luxury brands accompanied by great discounts and promotions. Some brands offer up to 80% discounts and range from Kate Spade, Nike, DKNY, CK, Burberry, GAP and so much more!

6

Massage time

Those looking to take the edge off and relax under the skilled hands of a masseur, head over to the Thong Yee Thong Reflexology centre, a secret gem that's known only to the locals in the area. The centre is well known for its traditional Chinese foot massages, but you can select some others from their available list as well. The massages are inexpensive, and the convenient location and relaxing atmosphere are some of the reasons why this is one of the most popular massage centres amongst locals.

7

Paintball

A game of paintball is fun for anyone! Head over to AOV Paintball for some midweek excitement. It's best to go with a group of friends. The staff at the arena will guide you and instruct you before you head out for some paintballing action. A game for 2 hours costs around RM 115, and you're equipped with 500 paintballs, a paintball market, safety goggles and vest as well as field chargers. A minimum group of 5 team players are required. The paintball arena encompasses approximately 20 acres of land which gives you plenty of space and hiding corners.
