Everyone knows that Galle Fort has pretty places to go to and take a look at, but when it comes to Galle; many are unaware of the amazing activities it has to offer too.

Whale Watching

Sri Lanka, being an island, has an ocean or sea on every corner, thus, the marine life in and around the country is rich like in no other place in the world. Whale watching is a fun thing to do when you are in Galle, especially if you are travelling with children. Many Galle hotels offer whale watching as a part of their activities package, and if you are put up at The Fortress Resort and Spa or a similar hotel, you are in luck, as they will provide details of whale watching tours.

Japanese Peace Pagoda

Located on top of the Rumasalla Hill, this pagoda looks over the deep blue ocean. The Japanese Peace Pagoda is a gorgeous religious structure that was built in 2004. Ideal for someone who wants to feel the serene and peaceful vibes in and around the pagoda, this place deserves a visit nonetheless. When you are relaxing on a Galle beach, you will be able to see this pagoda far away.

Wildlife Safari

Normally known as a beach destination, many travellers are not aware that Galle also has its share of rich wildlife close by. The Sinharaja Forest Reserve is about two hours away from Galle and offers wildlife safaris that let you enjoy the day to day activities of the animals with the backdrop of lush greens for as far as the eyes can see.

Jungle Beach

This place is exactly what the name says it is. A beach that lies cosily amidst a thick forest, the Jungle Beach is an untouched golden sand beach which is located near the Japanese Peace Pagoda. Being one of the secluded beaches in Sri Lanka, you can expect a mysterious aura surrounding the whole place.

Finally, the place that people need no introduction to; Galle Fort is a town that is rich in history and culture, with the imprints of the Dutch long gone still seen in most parts of it. From the cobblestoned streets to the Dutch Fort that offers the best seat in town to look over the beach and watch the sunrise or the sunset, Galle is a hub of activities and entertainment for even the most experienced traveller. Begin your day by visiting the beach for the sunrise, go around town, enjoy the many boutique stores and shops found in the streets, enjoy fine dining at the gorgeous cafe with views, and finally, end your day in Galle Fort just the way you began it. After taking a look at the Galle Lighthouse, make your way to the Dutch Fort, and wait for one of the most beautiful sunsets this island has to offer.
