Before you appear for the test, you should spend some time in identifying which all passages you should be reading. You should be attempting to read passages from various subjects like history, story, and science, etc. In this way you know where you are strong and where you are weak. It is not necessary that you read the passages in the order they appear so browse the passage as soon as the test begins. Try to answer the easier passages first and then save the harder ones for the end. Working this way you don’t have to finish the hard passages and you may still get high scores.
When attempting reading comprehension in the test, you have to bear in mind that you are not reading a course-book passage. So what you have to do is a quick scan of the introduction, the topic sentences of every paragraph and the just jump to the conclusion. Just gather the gist of the overall passage, and when you have to answer the questions, you will have to read the specific parts more thoroughly.
There are always two kinds of questions the specific ones and the general ones. Specific questions are seeking some specific information in the passage you should try to find that information from specific part of the passage. These questions are easy to answer as well. General questions should be attempted last as you might have developed the understanding of the passage to answer these indirect questions.
You have to be very careful about answering the ‘definition’ questions as they have to be answered in the context of the passage and not in general.
While attempting a particular question, if you are not sure about the answer then rather than selecting the right answer to eliminate the wrong choices and you will be left with the right answer.
