6 essential things you need for your first apartment – The must have to move in with ease

You got a cosy apartment, have the keys and know when to move in there. Now, what are the first few essentials you must buy before you actually move into your new home?

1

Basic Kitchen Utensils

If you had just bought or rented your very own luxury apartment in Sri Lanka the likes of Elysian Realty Mirissa, you must be looking to save costs while moving in, and for that, the first thing you must buy are the kitchen basics. Ordering out can make you spend so much more than you should at your first few days in the new home, therefore, invest in the basic kitchen utensils, and groceries; just enough to cook yourself a good meal.

2

Bedroom

Now that your food needs are sorted, let's move on to the sleep essentials. Never try to go cheap on a mattress, as you will end up using it for years to come, and a bad mattress can play havoc on your spine and its health. A few other things for the bedroom are storage and closet spaces. You can invest in the knick-knacks like end table and night lights later.

3

Bathroom

The essentials like a toothbrush holder, shower curtain and rolls of toilet paper are the first few things you need for the bathroom. Also, do not forget the cleaning supplies. If you are going to be sharing your bathroom with a roommate, then it's best to carry your personal toiletries with you to the shower and not store them in the bathroom, to avoid scenes where you two suspect each other of using the other's shampoo or deodorant.

4

Making it a home

It's the little things that make your apartment a home, a few tiny personal things scattered about the living space makes all the difference. If you have room in your budget for some other things, go for a pretty curtain in the colour of your choice, invest in a throw for the cosy nights that you are going to spend binge watching sitcoms online.

5

Furniture

You will obviously have a visual of what your first apartment must look like, but, does your budget allow for that vision? If you don't know what furniture you must prioritise on when moving into a new apartment, then stick to a sofa and a dining table. You need them both, as a place to lounge at and watch TV, and for someplace to eat at. Don't go for a glass top table as they are harder to clean, look for a sturdy wooden table, and if you have a countertop or an island in your apartment kitchen, just buy a few bar stools to jazz the place up.

6

Decor

Decorating an apartment according to your tastes is one of the best things about moving into a new home, but, in the beginning, it's best to stick to the basics, so, buy a few pieces of art in frames and hang them around the house strategically.
