Top 10 rhymers of all time

Even though many people don't appreciate the art of writing rhyming, complex lyrics, one has to understand the skill level of writing deep poetry to a rhythm.
In this list, we are not going to cover the type of rap artists that get attention in the mainstream media (the type of artists that makes songs that only consists of swear words and bad subjects), but instead, we are going to cover artists that talk about life, problems in society and personal struggles, a.ka real hip hop.

Some of these artists are maybe unknown for many of you, but again, in this list we don't care about famous rappers, we care about good rappers.

1

09. Busta Rhymes

09. Busta Rhymes

Busta Rhymes, a.ka Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr, is a rapper born in 1972 from New York.
His personal trait is to rap his personal style very fast. Many rappers rap fast, but they usually rap about nonsense. Busta Rhymes is extremly clear when he raps fast, and he tell stories at the same time.

The reason Busta is on this list is that he has his own style, he's rapping fast AND he's delivering a message.
He is not the best rhymer though, therefore he comes in at 09th place.

10. Rakim

10. Rakim

Rakim, a.ka William Michael Griffin, is a rapper, songwriter and MC born in 1968. The New York rapper is considered to be a pioneer in Hip hop. He was in the duo Rakim and Eric B.
Rakim is considered to be one of the most influencial MC:s in Hip hop history. He set the standard for old school rappers with his flowy freestyles and songs.

Some of his songs are pretty basic, while some are groundbreaking. Therefore, he comes in at 10th place.

08. Prodigy

08. Prodigy

Prodigy, a.ka Albert Johnson, was born in 1974. He was a rapper, an actor and an author. He was most famous for being one of the halves in the hiphop duo Mobb Deep. The other part of the duo was the rapper Havoc. Mobb Deep was active in the 90's.

I wouldn't say that Prodigy was "groundbreaking" in the same way that Rakim was, but he and Havoc restlessly carried on the hiphop tradition, without ruining it, and still bringing new ideas into the rap world. Another extremly big plus for Prodigy is that he, just like many other rappers on this list, told fantastic stories while rhyming to a beat.
No matter what you say, that is very difficult to do properly.

The reason Prodigy comes in at 08th on this list place has nothing to do his with his own capabilities, but simply because I think that the rappers above him are better.

07. Logic

07. Logic

Sir Robert "Bobby" Bryson Hall II, aka Logic, is a rapper and a songwriter born in London 1990. He grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland, US. Many people ask why he is knighted, and the answer to that is that he technically isn't. He was named "Sir" Robert by his mother.
Pretty much all the other rappers on this list are living (or dead) legends that influenced hiphop culture more than any other. Logic, on the other hand, is not like that. He is a young talent that through his dedication and incredible skills worked his way in the tough music branch.
He dropped his first song in 2009, and has already done better more himself than I guess he ever imagined.

Logic is biracial, which means that he has an african american dad and a "white" mom. Since he look very much "white" he's had trouble dealing with all the stereotypes and expectations that "black" or "white" people have. This is the main subject in many of his songs. He is fighting to get rid of all the stereotypes in our society. He always says that he's trying to spread "peace, love and positivity for all".

The reason he is on this list, among rap legends, is because he is such an incredible talent that writes extremly good songs, plus, he is delivering his message at all times.
I am personally interested in making music, and Logic is pretty much my greatest inspiration.
