Things to do on Your Honeymoon to Sri Lanka – Add Some Magic!

Newlyweds heading to Sri Lanka for their honeymoon are quite common as there is a range of activities which are great for them, whether its snorkelling or enjoying a beach dinner.

1

Snorkelling

There's nothing quite like exploring the treasures of the sea together with your partner. Some of the best spots to go snorkelling in Sri Lanka are Pigeon Island, Hikkaduwa or Jungle Beach. While snorkelling, you'll be swimming alongside schools of colourful fish, bright, vibrant coral reefs and might even come face to face with a sea turtle! Sri Lanka's tropical waters are known to be home to 5 types of turtles, all of which are on the endangered list, so remember not to disturb, touch or feed any of the sea creatures while snorkelling! If you don't have your own snorkelling gear, you can rent them from your hotel.

2

Candlelight dinners

Sri Lanka is famous for hosting candlelight dinners on the beach, simply because the beaches are breathtakingly beautiful and offer a killer sunset if you get there in time! Enjoy a scrumptious meal with your partner while gazing into the endless blue sea or the canopy of stars above you. Candle lit dinners are common within the city of Colombo, Bentota, Negombo, Weligama and Kalutara as there are a number of honeymoon hotels such as Mermaid Hotel & Club. It's important to book in advance, but be sure to check the weather before, as there's always a chance of rain in Sri Lanka during certain periods.

3

Explore the charms of Galle

Galle is a historically rich city complete with colonial charms and historical wonders. Stroll along the ramparts of the fort and watch in awe as the sun sets over the horizon and the light from the towering Galle Lighthouse switches on, acting as a beacon of hope to those at sea. While in Galle, there are plenty of dining establishments to choose from, most of which offer a great view of the ocean. Visit the Galle Museum and the Galle Maritime Museum to learn about the city's rich history.

4

Recreational activities

Spend the whole day lying by the pool or enjoying a day at the spa with your partner. Sometimes, all you need to do is completely unwind after a hectic few months of wedding planning and just relax. In Sri Lanka, recreation facilities in hotels range from outdoor sports like badminton to indoor activities such as karaoke bars, live musical performances and board games.

5

Surf

If you haven't done it before, surfing is a great activity to try with your partner! Not only is it fun and thrilling, but it also gives you plenty of opportunities to bond with each other, over plenty of laughter! Head over to Weligama if you're a beginner and rent a board and hire an instructor from the local surfing schools dotted along the beach. You'll be surfing, or at the very least, standing on your board by the end of the first hour. Learning a new sport together is always a great way to get closer to your partner and learn things about them!
