The Philippines is well known for beauty pageants. Many of our contestants have gone on to win Miss Universe, such as our own Pia Wurtzbach in 2015, as well as stars in international and domestic competitions such as Maxine Medina and Ariella Arida. Manila has hosted many competitions in the past and there is a strong presence at local events too across our islands. In more recent years the LGBT community has featured with Super Sireyna hosted on the popular day time TV show Eat Bulaga as well as Mr Gay World Philippines, where the appreciation of the beauty of contestants, has transcended gender and sexuality in the Philippines, as one of Asia’s most LGBT tolerant societies. I enjoy working at pageants, with the opportunities they bring to meet people from all walks of life.
