Over the last few months, Ella has become the most favourite destinations to visit on the island. This mountainous city offers breathtaking views that are sure to make your head spin and your heart giddy! The mountainous areas in Ella are usually covered with farmed land that grows vegetables, tea and rice, all of which give Ella a rich, lush landscape. Although Ella is known to be a quiet, sleepy town, rest assured you won't be bored. Hiking up some of the mountains in Ella are the most common thing to do while you're here. People make their way to this town purely to hike and take in the beauty of the land. Little Adam's Peak and Ella Rock are two most common mountains to hike in Ella – and has to be on your list of places to visit while in Sri Lanka. You will also be able to take a lot of Instagram-worthy pictures while in Ella! Stop at a waterfall or take a picture with a local tea plucker, immerse yourself in all that is good in Sri Lanka and you're bound to have the best holiday in Ella.
From Ella, make your way to Sri Lanka's famous and oldest hill city of Kandy. Once known as a kingdom, the vibrant and electric city of Kandy is said to be Sri Lanka's most scenic cities and quite popular amongst tourists and locals. Kandy is most noted for having the iconic and most revered Buddhist temple known as the Sri Dalada Maligawa. As there are many popular hotels in Sri Lanka, you won't have an issue finding accommodation to suit your budget with properties such as Earls Hotels being established in several areas in the island. Kandy is also famous for the Royal Botanical Gardens, which makes for the ideal picnic venue for families and couples. Sigiriya HAS to be mentioned on any list mentioning all the beautiful places of Sri Lanka, or else it would just be incomplete! Make your way down to the cultural triangle and climb the ever famous attraction on the island; Sigiriya Fortress. The ancient rock fortress was built for a King which an interesting story to tell. Hire a tour guide who will give you a good back story as you ascend the stone-y steps of this giant rock or read up on its history instead. Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a site you should not miss when visiting Sri Lanka.
