Must see museums in Qatar – A dose of History and Art in Qatar

Qatar is one of those destinations that is rich in culture and tradition. If you want to journey to the yesteryears of this nation, visiting the many museums in the country is a great place to start.

1

Museum of Islamic Art

Qatar is a Muslim country and is a great place to learn a little about the artsy side of Islam. Culture and tradition is a big part of this religion and the art characteristic of this faith beautifies it. In the Museum of Islamic Art, one can appreciate a collection of exquisite artwork that will take you across some of the most artistic eras in the Islamic World. This museum was established in the year 2008 and has been renowned among art lovers for its impressive collection of Islamic Art. Apart from traditional art you even find here ornaments, vases, carpets, glass, metal works and textile items.

National Museum of Qatar

This is one attraction that takes you to the very core of Qatar. Qatar has a rich history but what really has put this nation on the map is its grandeur and fast-paced development. The building of the National Museum of Qatar is by itself proof of the fact. This unmissable attraction in the country is an artwork to admire. Its unique architecture is the work of award-winning French architect Jean Nouvel where its design has been inspired by the petals of a desert rose.

MATHAF – Arab Museum of Modern Art

This is another museum where art takes centre stage. A mosaic of artwork ranging from the old to the new, the Arab Museum of Modern Art has been a haven for emerging artists and showcases a rich variety of all things artsy. As the name has it the museum is most certainly a great place to appreciate modern art and exhibits found here range from traditional paintings to sculptures and even photography. There is always something new to appreciate when it comes to the modern art in the museum, however, there is a permanent place for the historic exhibits here. If you prefer choosing one of the luxury hotels in Doha in the vicinity, the Souq Waqif Boutique Hotels by Tivoli is one option that can be considered.

His unconventional pieces such as the showcase of Hirst's greatest hits, including his incredibly valuable dead animals preserved in formaldehyde, diamond skull and a selection of artworks that have never been seen before, are all found in this museum.
