The Maldives is celebrated as a top snorkelling destination in the world and with good reason. The clear warm waters that surround the islands are rich with marine life, aquatic plants and vast coral reefs. It is estimated that there are over 70 species of corals that make up the reefs, and around 700 species of fish and other marine life found living among the corals. Rare species like the beautiful, giant Napoleon Wrasse, Groupers and Snappers are common sights near lagoons, while further from the reefs you can expect to spot sharks and even turtles. Manta rays are abundant here and can be seen gracefully gliding through the waters in large groups. The best part of all is that you don't need prior experience to snorkel here, its one of the easiest ways to explore the reefs without much gear to weigh you down.
