Plan an Excursion to Haputale

The Nuwara Eliya district is vast, with plenty of places to visit. Although the town itself is home to a number of holiday attractions, the wandering tourist will find plenty of places to set off on a day's excursion. Haputale is one such place; to reach this mountainous region, you need to travel through beautiful Bandarawela from Nuwara Eliya. Your journey will take an hour, and once there get set to explore, the Adisham Monastery, Lipton's Seat, vintage tea factories and beautiful lookout points, which stretch across the land.

Explore the Town of Kotmale

Of all the nearby places to see in Nuwara Eliya, the town of Kotmale should not be given a miss. The sleepy district is home to the huge Kotmale Dam and beautiful misty hills. Enjoy a Hike to Single Tree Hill

Private hikes are organised to Sri Lanka's ninth tallest hill; Single Tree. It is a 4 hour journey which will reward you with utterly stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Take a Cycling Tour of the City

Beautiful Nuwara Eliya city dubbed the 'Garden City' is a soothing environ to explore, the winding roads are lined with vintage, bungalows from the colonial era, their gardens bursting with colours and hues of all kinds. Cycle around town, explore the busy market and have a peek at the Nuwara Eliya Golf course, one of the oldest on the island. You can head over to the chilly precincts of Lake Gregory, where crowds of folks, enjoying the crisp cool air will wave and smile. Stop at the park, lining the lake and indulge in a bowl of fresh strawberries and cream. If you are up for some extra action, take on the uphill climb on your bicycle, winding its way around the pine forests, these narrow roads with their sudden turns are quite a challenge and pleasure, for the adrenaline seeker.

Explore Horton Plains

Head over to Horton Plains from your Nuwara Eliya resort and enjoy a day in the folds of nature. Trek to famous Bakers Falls, and take the loop road to the Worlds End, lookout point. Home to magnificent Samba, jungle fowls and other exotic creatures, the flora of Horton Plains are deemed unique to the island; most of which are found only in the plains.
