Matara Fort

The Matara Fort was built by the Portuguese in the year 1560. However other places record that it was built by the Dutch as they invaded and captured the city of Galle. Matara has come to become one of the top destinations for tourists holidaying in Sri Lanka. It has gained immense popularity and has a plethora of well-established hotels, guest houses and entertainment facilities. Star Fort

The Star Fort is located right in the city of Matara, it is named so as its shape forms that of a star. The fort has significant historical and cultural importance as it was utilized in wars when it served to protect and secure the other main fort in the city of Matara. Many travellers and history students take a specific interest in the Star Fort for its architectural importance and strategic planning. The fort is also home to two tiny houses preserved in a much better way as the fort itself has been prone to wear and tear over the years.
