Matara Fort

The Matara Fort was built by the Portuguese in the year 1560. However other places record that it was built by the Dutch as they invaded and captured the city of Galle. Star Fort

The Star Fort is located right in the city of Matara, it is named so as its shape forms that of a star. The fort has significant historical and cultural importance as it was utilized in wars when it served to protect and secure the other main fort in the city of Matara.
