Shopping Malls in Jakarta - The Best among the Best Shopping Experiences

Being named a shopping town, and not a mere mall, this is one of the largest shopping experiences to be had in Jakarta. It is located right in the centre of the city and is an assortment of shops, stores, restaurants, and entertainment options. There are also other important supporting facilities such as ATMs, money changers, and the like. Indonesia's largest cinema is also housed within the same complex. The only thing missing in this assortment of everything important is a Jakarta hotel. However, places like Alila Jakarta are less than half an hour away, which makes it feel almost as if it is a part of this massive shopping town.

Known as MTA for short, the Taman Anggrek Mall, or Mal Taman Anggrek is the largest shopping mall in all of Jakarta and even Indonesia. There are seven levels to this mall, housing over 500 shops. The central shopping mall is surrounded by eight towers which are residential apartments. MTA is the place where indoor ice skating happens, as well the place for exhibitions and displays. There are ten exhibition areas located within the mall. The mall is also the proud holder of the world record for the longest LED display, which is hard to miss.

Not as extravagant as the other two, Plaza Senayan, or PS, is a collection of shops that cater to the modern family lifestyle. The mall houses a number of international brands, upscale restaurants, and a cinema. It may be in a completely different league from other malls in Jakarta, but exudes a sense of upper-class appeal in its demeanour.

The Pondok Indah Mall is one of the largest shopping malls in Jakarta. Although called one mall, it is actually a mall complex, comprising of three individual malls. Each complex has a different collection of restaurants and shops, which makes the variety of goods available at the Pondok Indah Mall quite high. There is a department store as well as a supermarket here. The mall is also well-known for its recreational attractions such The Wave Pondok Indah waterpark, and Winter Wonderland, an indoor ice skating arena.

Commonly referred to as GanCit by the locals, this shopping mall is popular among and good for kids. While the mall itself has over 300 shops to choose and browse through, the key attraction of the place lies in one of the arcades. The ceiling of this section is painted to resemble a sky and is lined with stores selling toys, books, and electronics. It is a wonderful walk to have, even if nothing is purchased from that section. There are some fun activities for the kids to engage in, as well, such as T-Rex Family Karaoke and Flight Experience.
