Stay Motivated to Lose Weight in the New Year With These Tips

With the New Year approaching, you’re probably jotting down a list of things you want to accomplish over the course of the next year. If you’re like many others, one of your resolutions is to shed some pounds. While it’s easy to create this resolution, it can be challenging to stick to it. You may start off strong working out consistently and eating healthy, and before you know it, you’ve fallen off the diet wagon. So what do you need to do to commit to your diet?

1

Create a list of what you have to look forward to

Take some time to think about all the ways your life will get better by losing weight. Starting with the obvious, weight loss will help you look and feel great. Other things may include having more energy to play with your children, getting off prescription medications, or going on that cruise in the Caribbean that you’ve always wanted. Write down as many things as you can think of and keep the list somewhere prominent so you can review it to give you an extra boost of motivation.

2

Set small goals

By setting small as opposed to one large goal, you’re more likely to achieve them. For example, if you want to lose 30 pounds, set a goal to lose five pounds within two weeks. It’s easier to stick to smaller goals and when you achieve them, it will motivate you to keep going.

3

Get professional guidance

If you belong to a gym in Philly, speak to a personal trainer for fitness advice. They can show you new and different workouts to try. Many gyms in Philadelphia offer tons of group exercise classes to help you improve your fitness, learn a new skill, and make friends. Weight loss programs are designed to teach you how to make healthier food choices and find the inspiration to work out.

4

Toss the junk

Keep healthy foods in your home for healthy eating. Swap out any unhealthy foods in your home and replace them with healthy, nutritious foods. Additionally, make meal prep a part of your routine. Taking some time at the end of each week to plan and prepare weekly meals will make sticking to your goal much easier

5

Find a support group

Having friends or family members who have similar health goals as you can help you feel less alone. You can encourage and motivate each other, share your tips and advice, and ask questions.

6

Track your progress through pictures

While it’s reassuring to see the number on the scale drop, you may not actually “feel” it. Track your progress by taking pictures and creating a diary. Looking at the pictures will allow you to see your progress.

7

Don’t let one slip discourage you

Losing weight is not easy. There are days you may struggle to work out or eat healthy. Stumbles are bound to happen, but never let that stop you from reaching your goal. Acknowledge the mistake, recognize why it happened and what you can do to prevent it, remember your end goal, and keep going.
