Winter Weather Offers Opportunity To Donate Goods

For many of us, winter means no less than three months confined to the insides of our homes due to the bitter cold, snow, hail, merciless winds and anything else Mother Nature feels the need to throw at us. It’s not a pleasant time, but we can’t simply hit the “fast-forward” button to power through it, either. That’s why it never hurts to compile a to-do list of winter-friendly activities that you, friends and family can carry out while waiting for the snow to blow over.

1

Taking Stock

Winter is a great time to assess the possessions all around you. If your closet is overflowing with unworn clothes, shoes and other assorted purchases from throughout the year, drag it all out and assess what you haven’t worn in recent memory. According to TodaysParent.com, donating said items is a great benefit to both you and your community. By visiting the websites of local charities or thrift stores, you’ll learn what items they may need and it could be in line with what you’re willing to part with. “Make sure your giving always comes with dignity, and remember the person on the receiving line,” the director of a Toronto-based charity told the website. That roughly translates to only donating items that still have some life left them.

Turning Attention

If you’re bored, they’re bored. While children may enjoy snow a bit more than adults, those actual snow days are few and far between. According to Parents.com, there are still plenty of educational and enjoyable activities you and your children can partake in together. Similarly, the website suggests sitting down with your child for an extended reading session. Per the website, the Children’s Reading Foundation says even 1 year olds will “understand the words you're saying as they help flip pages

Establishing Priorities

If you find yourself stuck inside, watching cable television and realizing that the majority of channels are going unwatched, it’s time to reevaluate the price you’re paying. With the best HD antenna currently available, you can still watch dozens of broadcast television channels and simultaneously cancel your cable TV subscription. With recent estimates placing the average cable TV bill at a little more than $100 per month, you can easily save in excess of $1,200 a year simply by going without hundreds of cable channels. You’ll still be able to watch national and local news, sporting events, children’s programs (which could undoubtedly help with our second main point above), classic movies, foreign language channels and more.

TV Industry Starting To Take Tabs On Viewership

it’s still early to tell if “scheduling moves, forced hiatus or a rare and outright cancellation” are on the horizon. Still, CBS’ “Young g Sheldon” has come out as winner. Only one episode of the show, which is a spin-off of “Big Bang Theory,” has aired. However, it was well-received and viewed by 22.5 million people. The Hollywood Reporter adds that the series gets going again on Nov. 2 so HDTV antenna owners should tune in then to learn more about Sheldon Cooper’s origin story. Moving on to another winner, The Hollywood Reporter cites the reboot of “Will & Grace” as another winner. With 15 million viewers, the show was making plenty of pointed pop culture jokes on its first of 13 episodes. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the record viewership are numbers “not seen in a decade
