5 Travel tips of Singapore from a local's point of view - Definitely be aware!

Like any country, there are things that you should be aware of before planning your trip. Let's look at some important tips to note when visiting Singapore.

1

Be Aware of the Duty-Free Rules

Singapore is a country that is very strict when it comes to its duty-free concessions and it takes it very seriously. When it comes to alcohol, it is limited based on what you're going to purchase. You can look to buy one litre each of any spirits, beer and wine, Or you can buy 2 litres of wine and then one-litre of-of beer, either way, you cannot exceed one litre of spirits when purchasing alcohol. Another point to note is that there is no duty-free allowance on cigarettes or any tobacco products. If you're bringing cigarettes from another country and get caught doing so, you'll be charged with huge fines.

2

No Drugs

One of the strictest rules in Singapore is that you aren't allowed to have drugs. While this should be obvious enough, you should be aware that the death penalty applies to this. Even a small amount could get you in trouble with the authorities, while a larger amount will get you charges of trafficking. The minor punishment for this will be steep fines and jail time if you're a lucky individual. Double and triple check your suitcases before travelling to make you're 100% clean.

3

Look at the Laws

It is always a good practice to look at the laws of any land before you travel to it so that you can avoid possible issues with the authorities. Small offences elsewhere could easily be serious offences in Singapore. For example, if you're caught spitting on the street, jaywalking, or even if you throw a cigarette butt on the ground, you could be reprimanded by police officers and have to pay huge fines. Another thing to note that chewing gum is illegal in the country. They don't take ignorance of the law as an excuse and are very serious about this.

4

The Weather is Hot

Singapore being very close to the equator is evidence enough that this will be a very hot country. The added part to this is the humidity. While the forecast may predict a temperature around 35 degrees C, with the added humidity, it'll be around 45 degrees C. To avoid the blistering heat during the day, you can plan indoor activities like exploring the malls in the city. Another great tip is to always carry a bottle of water with you to replenish yourself. If you're looking for places to stay such as 5 star hotels in Orchard Road Singapore, you'll find plenty to choose from like the Grand Park Orchard for example.

5

Don't Be Afraid of Public Transportation

Singapore is exceptionally clean, safe and efficient; the prime example for this is its public transportation. The subway system known as the MRT is cheap and is an excellent way to get around the country. If your stay is for a few days, make sure to get EZ-Link cards that give you transfers and cheaper fares which are charged by distance. This makes for a great way to get about rather than walking in the heat.
