Learning How to Clean Arcade Machines

One of the hottest gifts this holiday season is a classic arcade machine. There’s something truly remarkable about the sense of nostalgia that classic arcade machines offer their players. Unfortunately, these machines – especially ones that used to call bars their home – are rather dirty and in need of a thorough cleaning.

Arcade Machines

Today, we will examine the proper way to clean arcade machines without hurting the integrity of the gameplay they offer.

Arcade cabinets are notorious for collecting airborne residue.

2

Location

This is true whether the machine has rested in a residential basement or sat in the back corner of a restaurant. No matter the degree of the filth, there a few different ways to approach cleaning a cabinet safely. The first – and longest – way to go about this is alcohol and cotton swabs. This can be strenuous but it’s a great way to get every nook and cranny and maintain the safety of the cabinet.

3

Soap?

A better way to clean an arcade machine is to simply utilize soap and water. Yes, there are electrical components of the machine and an HV probe must be used to discharge the parts, but once the machine is discharged, it becomes safe to do. The easiest location to watch your cabinet is in the bathtub.

The Process

This could get dirty, so be sure to be ready to clean your tub after! The next step is to gather all the necessary equipment. A brush, some liquid soap and some room temperature water will do the trick. Spray down the board and utilize the brush to ensure every facet of the board receives some TLC. Leave the board alone for 15 minutes at this point and then wash it down with a showerhead. From there, it’s drying time!

Danger

The most dangerous time when it comes to maintaining the integrity of the gameplay and the board parts is the time spent drying the machine. Utilize a hair dryer and take your time. It’s vital that every piece of the equipment is completely dry. When you finish, you will be the proud owner of an arcade machine with a circuit board that looks completely brand new!
