Hikkaduwa Beach

The Hikkaduwa Beach is well famed for its jack of all trades nature. The beautiful reef just off the shore gives you a great diving and snorkelling experience while the waves provide the perfect set up for surfing. After all that is done, lounge by the beach and watch the sunset. It is a simple task to buy or rent swimming gear or surfing gear thanks to the many operators along the beach. The city has long been a tourist hub and the locals are well educated on the needs and requirements of tourists. The many restaurants close to the beach and in the town serve all types of cuisine as well as the freshest and most scrumptious seafood.

Unawatuna

Unawatuna with its glorious beaches and calm seas is well known by both the locals and the foreigners. The beach also has an ideal surrounding for a family day out at the beach while a range of watersports can be found here too. Once the sun sets, many beach parties start and go on until early morning. Furthermore, Unawatuna is one of the best spots to engage in turtle spotting. The best time to visit the Unawatuna Beach is during the months of November and April.

Galle Face Green

Galle Face Green is a bustling seaside promenade that is a beehive of activity. Drop in during the evenings and you are likely to see everything from horse rides to kite flying with the Indian Ocean stretching infinitely on the background. While the beach is not the most beautiful beach you will come across during your stay in Sri Lanka, its liveliness and the range of activities it provides makes it one of the top things to see in Colombo. Its close proximity to hotels in the city such as Colombo Court Hotel & Spa makes it easy to access for any visitor to the country.

Negombo Beach

One of the most developed coastlines in the country, the Negombo beach is an ideal location for some beach therapy. The fact that it is only an hour's drive from Colombo and thirty minutes from the main airport makes it more desirable. Plenty of tiny stalls sell souvenirs and live bands play classics while the beachfront offers a range of excursions such as fishing, surfing and scuba diving. The many restaurants around are well known for their great seafood dishes.

Arugam Bay

Renowned all over the world for its fantastic surfing points, Arugam Bay habitually draws hordes of surfers enthralled by the rumours of giant waves and surfing points. The bay is known to be the base for major surfing competitions. The Arugam Bay Point is thought to be the most difficult and a wave can extend up to 5 or 10 metres.
