5 things to do in Mirissa - Tips for an ideal beach vacation

Mirissa, Sri Lanka, is a popular coastal destination that has everyone wanting for more. There are plenty of things to do in Mirissa, these being the must not miss ones.

1

Surfing

Surfing is one of the most sought-after activities to do in Mirissa. The waves are tall and wide, making for the perfect surf vacation. The surfing season is from October to March. As there is a lesser crowd here than in other surfing locations on the island, it is a good place to visit. In fact, it would be quite easy to spend an entire day simply surfing and riding waves, for the beach is that conducive.

2

Whale watching

Mirissa is also quite popular for whale watching. There are many tour companies and state-run tours in operation here. The whale watching season is between November and March. You will be able to see different types of whales, as well as dolphins on these tours. However, keep in mind that these tours start operating early in the morning. This means you will be setting off by sunrise and will return only around noon. When making reservations for your tour, do look for a reliable company that is eco-friendly.

3

Sign up for a massage

No matter where on the island you go, you are sure to find an Ayurveda resort in Sri Lanka. Same holds true for Mirissa. There are numerous places to go for an Ayurveda treatment, from high-end places like Surya Lanka Ayurveda Beach Resort to regular massage parlours that provide Ayurveda treatment. Ayurveda strives to establish an equilibrium between the mind, body, and heart – a holistic wellness. Coupled with the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean and the sea breeze, a treatment at Mirissa would be the perfect way to relax on your vacation.

4

Take a day trip

The location of Mirissa is conducive to making it a good base for day trips to more famous locations. The Galle Fort and Unawatuna Beach are located quite close by, close enough to make a day trip. You can spend a day at the UNESCO Heritage Site of Galle Fort, walking through the paved streets and making purchases off of little quirky shops. There are many places to eat, and you can even watch the sunset from the ramparts. Alternatively, a day can be spent at the famous Unawatuna beach. There are numerous pubs and restaurants on the beach for you to chill at, and the ocean is quite inviting.

5

Chill by the beach

The main attraction of Mirissa is its beach. Curved stretch of sand that goes on forever, Mirissa is perfect to simply sit back and enjoy the tropical Sun. The beach can get rather crowded during the season, but there is plenty of room for everyone. You can opt to have a cocktail, a cold can of beer, or even a tropical king coconut before lounging on the beach and allowing the waves to lap at your toes. It makes for the perfect beach vacation.
