05 Fascinating Facts about Burj Khalifa - The Pinnacle of Doha's Attractions

Burj Khalifa is not only an architectural wonder, it is also a major tourist attraction. It stands in the middle of Doha like a beacon that summons the world to its feet.

1

Number of records broken

Burj Khalifa is not just the tallest building in the world, it has also broken a number of other records as well. This is what makes it one of the best Dubai tourist attractions. The structure has broken the record for the tallest structure as well as the tallest free-standing structure. It also has the highest number of stories found in any building in the world, as well as the highest observation deck located outdoors. Burj Khalifa has the elevator with the longest travel, as well as being the tallest service elevator in the world. All these are measured without including maintenance areas, antennae, flag poles or other elements.

2

A variety of components

What's special about Burj Khalifa is that it is not limited to one area or field. At the bottom of the building is the Armani Hotel, Dubai a luxury hotel that fits right in with the likes of Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort. Next up is Armani residencies, followed by another section of the Armani Hotel. Residencies continue after that as well, until Atmosphere is reached. On top of that is "At the Top Burj Khalifa", followed by the Corporate Suites. The highest point of the building is "At the Top Burj Khalifa Sky". Burj Khalifa encompasses a number of fields and industries within its space, making it a unique location.

3

Modern structure

Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merill LLP, the architecture of this building is an abstract representation of the Hymenocallis flower. There are three elements to the tower arranged concentrically. Each of these three wings has a set back which gives them stability. There are 26 helical levels to decrease the cross-section of the tower as it increases in height. The cire is what emerges at the top to make the spire. The architecture of the building, when view from the bottom, is highly reminiscent of Islamic architecture.

4

Wind Tunnel Testing

The problem with any structure that is as tall as Burj Khalifa is that it should be able to withstand strong winds that it has to encounter. 40 wind tunnel tests were conducted before the tower opened to the public to ensure that it can withstand the buffets of wind. Special studies were also conducted to ensure that the building would not face any negative impact from stack effect or chimney effect.

5
