7 Unconventional experiences to try out in Singapore - Amazing experiences in store!

While Singapore is full of the touristy locations and attractions everyone recommends, let's look at some of the most interesting unconventional experiences on offer.

1

Cat Cafes

Singapore's coffee scene grows by the day, with café-hopping becoming a legitimate hobby these days. You'll find a whole array of cafes to visit while you're in Singapore, however, do check out a different kind of café that elevates the general coffee experience with a twist. Cat cafes have popped up in Singapore after gaining immense popularity in places like Tokyo and so on. You can easily grab a cup of coffee while blissfully enjoying the company of adorable felines who are more than happy to see you. Notable spots include Cat Café Neko No Niwa as well as The Company of Cats, as they only bring in rescued and abandoned cats who thrive with the love and attention of others.

2

Look out for Local Talent

As with any country, Singapore has a thriving music scene full of new and upcoming local talent. So if you enjoy your music, checking out new bands and records, do look around for some exciting experiences. Places such as Esplanade, Hood Bar, Timbre and Café host many local bands that offer some amazing original tunes. You'll also be able to find some pop-up gigs like The Diarists Sessions for example that seek out and spotlight new talent. If you're looking for the best luxury hotel in Singapore for accommodation while you visit, you'll get different answers from many. This is because almost all of them offer exceptional service and ambience, like the Grand Park City Hall for example.

3

Try Durian

Heralded as the 'King of Fruits', most people generally have a love or hate relationship with this treat. However many do claim not to be put off by the pungent smell as the flesh of the fruit inside is extremely delicious. Either way, it is an unforgettable experience and proves to be a fun little activity to try. If the fruit itself does not appeal to you, you can opt for the ice cream variety that is sold in some locations. The durian fruit itself ranges from price and can be found in many places like Geylang.

4

Visit the Junk Shops

Gift shopping or simple browsing is an excellent thing to do while you visit Singapore, and there's no better place than the Junk Shops located behind the Turf Club in Bukit Timah. You'll find a plethora of items you might want for your friends or even yourself. Notable examples include dining chairs, desks, mirrors or even tables. Don't be afraid to browse through these items before taking a picture to show the vendor as there are too many items here for them to tag. The vendor will give you a price based on the item in your picture. Don't be surprised if you find items like a huge vintage carousel, a wooden hot tub or even a life-size statue of Jesus.

5

Tour the Changi Museum

The Changi Museum offers an extremely poignant look into Singapore's wartime past. You'll witness a whole lot of letters, photos and artefacts from prisoners during the war, all which shed light on their plights all the while being held at the Changi Prison. If you crave a more in-depth experience, you can rent an audio tour set where you can listen to honest stories of the survivors while you explore the museum. The Changi Museum includes a little chapel where you can light a candle in honour of the victims and what they've been through
