There are plenty of hotels near the Biltmore to make visiting even easier for you, and once you see it you’ll be amazed!

What truly gives this spectacle its allure is the fact that it started as the bold vision of George Washington Vanderbilt, a member of the prominent Vanderbilt family, which made a huge fortune though the steamboat and railroad industries.

2

Sustainablity

Over the years, the estate has proven to be sustainable and beneficial to the Asheville community. It is the largest private home in America and encompasses thousands of acres of gardens, park lands, managed forests, and more.

The actual home itself has four acres of floor space comprised of 250 rooms, 34 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms, and 65 fireplaces. The Biltmore Estate also features an underground swimming pool, gymnasium, bowling alley, and various kitchens.

3

Beauty

Even though its inception occurred more than 100 years ago, the Biltmore Estate remains one of Asheville’s most breathtaking attractions. In fact, it has become one of the largest draws for tourism in all of North Carolina.

Hollywood has even utilized its beauty for some films such as Forrest Gump, The Swan, The Last of the Mohicans, and several others.

Biltmore Village

The construction of the home also led to the erection of Biltmore Village, which used to be used to house the community of workers who built the estate over the course of six years. Now the village is home to shops, restaurants and hotels for you to enjoy after visiting the Biltmore Estate.

And to think none of this would have ever been possible if George Washington Vanderbilt hadn’t fallen in love with the seasonal climate and the atmosphere of the mountains in Asheville.
