Chinese Fried Rice

Fried rice is a favourite in Sri Lanka but the best part is it is the Chinese twist that makes this dish authentic in every way. To relish the best of Chinese fried rice you need to pay a visit to one of the Chinese restaurants in Colombo. Since there are so many places to choose from, you will feel spoilt for choice here. You can have it vegetarian or with seafood, egg or chicken and in all ways this dish is simply perfection.

Devilled Chicken

If you are from Sri Lanka you would have surely heard of the devilled chicken. A favourite accompaniment to fried rice, devilled chicken actually originates from China. But this has become so infused into the Sri Lankan culture that many have actually mistaken this to be a local favourite. Devilled chicken is prepared by lightly frying cubes of marinated chicken. This is then once again stir fried with tempered onions, ginger, garlic, tomatoes and green chillies. What gives this dish its authentic Chinese flavour is the tomato sauce and the soya sauce that is added in the end.

Vegetable Chop Suey

Wholesome, healthy and truly heavenly, Chop Suey is a favourite dish that perfectly complements any Chinese rice. Basically Vegetable Chop Suey is a tempered mosaic of all your favourite vegetables. To this a little bit of corn starch is added which gives this dish its sticky consistency. Add in a few drops of soya sauce and you have your characteristic Chinese flavour as well. If you want to make sure you get your greens with this dish, throw in some Kankun as well.

Stir fried Kankun

If you have tasted stir fried Kankun you will realize that greens have never tasted better. This delicious leafy dish is so easy to prepare that all you need to do is throw everything in to the pot and you can have this dish ready in just under 5 minutes. To ensure that it has Chinese written all over it, don't forget the soy sauce and wholesome amounts of garlic.

Chinese Chilli Paste

No matter what meal you are having, chilli paste is an absolute must in Chinese cuisine. This paste is simply a mix of chilli, garlic, oil and soy sauce but it gives a whole new vigour to the meal before you. You don't even need a teaspoon of chilli paste to transform your meal. Adding the perfect amount of spicy and tangy flavours your Chinese meal becomes something that your taste-buds will fall in love with.
