Top 5 Surfing Spots to Try in Maldives Catch Some Waves in Maldives!

With its glittering blue waters, it is no surprise that the Maldives is a surfer's paradise. Listed below are some of the best places for an enthusiast to indulge in some exceptional surfing.

1

Honky's

This alluring surf spot is found on Thamburudhoo Island and is said to be one of the best spots to find regular waves on the Male Atoll. The right handed waves of this spot are best enjoyed during high tide. It is a great place when the wind is coming from the North-East. Perhaps the best thing about Honky's is that it offers distinct sections for surfers. Surfers would start off with a steep take-off which extends into a fast moving section; a thrilling experience which cannot be missed! Done properly and under the right conditions, a ride could range as far as 150 metres in length. Are you up for the challenge?

2

Cokes

If you are a surfer looking for activities to do in Maldives, it is time to head over to Cokes for a spot of surfing. This area is within reach of Thulusdhoo Island and gets its name from the Coca-Cola plant on the island. Since the waves break over a reef, it results in some of the best surfing waves available in the archipelago. Intermediate and more experienced surfers would enjoy this spot better as it offers right handed waves which can have large swells and create wide barrels which almost every surfer dreams of riding through. Cokes is at its optimum when the winds are from the South or North-East.

3

Castaways

This surf spot is ideal for less experienced surfers as it offers gentle right hand waves that can be handled in all tide conditions. The best time to surf at Castaways is when the swells come close to four feet. A day spent surfing at Castaways can be best described as idyllic because you can enjoy your ride against the backdrop of abundant marine life.

4

Chickens

After the Cokes example, you may have already guessed that Chickens is named after the chicken farm located on the island. If the weather is right and the wind is coming from the North-West or North-East, this place offers fantastic swells which vary from 3 feet to an awe-inspiring 10 feet. Surfers come from all over Maldives, including Kandolhu Island to experience these long waves and tube ride as it creates truly exceptional barrels. Seasoned surfers are encouraged to visit and take advantage of the left handed waves and rides that can be as long as 500 metres. The best part is that Chickens is not very crowded so you can enjoy yourself fully.

5

Love Charms

While Love Charms does not offer a very taxing wave system, it gives surfers a chance to have fun on its lengthy waves. The long wave can be divided into two distinct sections; the hollow wall take-off and attractive tubes. If you are looking for consistent conditions despite changing wind directions and left hand waves, look no further than Love Charms.
