Top 5 sea food types you should try in Maldives – A Famous place for delightful Seafood

Maldives is one destination that is all about the water so it really does not come as a surprise that fish is a favourite here. For the best dose of Maldivian seafood here are some must try dishes.

1

Mas Riha

Mas Riha literally means fish curry and this is one dish you will find in pretty much in any home or restaurant in the Maldives. It is a staple this Mas Riha and is prepared with either yellow fin tuna or skip jack. If you can't find either fish you can always try your Mas Riha with pretty much any firm fish out there. To start off making this curry, some onion, garlic, ginger, chilli slices, curry leaves, cardamom should be sautéed after which it should be blended. The paste is then combined with thick coconut milk and brought to boil. The heat is then reduced and the chunks of marinated fish are added. Now all you need to do is cook it for a few minutes and your Mas Riha is ready.

2

Mashuni

When it comes to Maldivian breakfasts, Mashuni is probably the most popular dish out there. Anywhere in Maldives you will definitely find Mashuni for it perfectly complements both rotti and rice. Mashuni is prepared by combining smoked tuna and coconut; both of which are 2 very popular ingredients in Maldivian cuisine. To make things easier many Maldivians add the Mashuni inside the rotti prior to baking it giving it a sandwich like feel. This in turn is called Masroshi and like a sandwich it is easy to eat this anywhere and anytime.

5

Fihuni Mas

This is like the healthier version of Theluli Mas, for instead of deep frying the marinated fish it is actually baked. To prepare the Fihuni Mas usually whole fish is used and as for the marinade chilli, cumin and curry leaves are added. Even though tuna is commonly preferred for the Fihuni Mas, the dish can also be prepared using other types of fish. Dining in Maldives will always offer you the best of such seafood dishes. In Maafushivaru Maldives you get a rich variety.

3

Dhon Riha

This is another all time favourite dish that has a gravy like consistency and is best eaten with rice or rotti. Once again the most popular ingredients in Maldives are used for the Dhon Riha which includes Tuna and coconut milk. What gives the Dhon Riha its unique tangy flavour is the raw mangoes that are added. Throw in some spices and you have a taste bud tantalizing treat that will leave you craving for more.

4

Theluli Mas

This is actually a very basic fried fish but it happens to be one of the most common seafood treats in all of Maldives. Making Theluli Mas is very simple. All you need to do is get your hands on some tuna steaks, marinate it well with curry powder and tomato paste and then deep fry your fish in some vegetable or coconut oil. No matter how many times you have it, this dish never gets old.
