Best Spots to watch the sunrise in Sri Lanka - Golden hues aplenty!

Sri Lanka boasts many beautiful places that are filled with scenic surroundings, but one of the best things to do is to catch a beautiful sunrise. Let's look at some of the best places to do so.

1

Adam's Peak

Adam's Peak also known as Samanala Kanda amongst the locals is an iconic and sacred location in the country. It is a mountain that is known for its 'Sri Pada', which is the sacred footprint. Some locals believe it is the footprint of Adam, the first man on earth according to Christianity or Islam, while others believe it to be the footprint of the Buddha. The climb is generally done during the night so as to avoid the blistering midday heat. You should ideally start your climb at around 10 pm so that you can reach the top in time to witness one of the most spectacular sunrises at cloud level. This view is nothing short of absolutely breathtaking.

2

Jaffna

Jaffna is another one of those cities that hold a vast array of places where you can witness a great sunset or sunrise. This northernmost part of the Island is now free to travel to as the civil war in the country ended a few years ago. While you won't have mountains to gaze down upon from, the scenic sunrises or sunsets amidst the Palmyra palms are more than satisfying. Check out the Manal Kaadu, which is a large sandy area that could make for a wondrous glimpse at this natural wonder.

3

Arugambay

Arugambay is a beach that is popular the world over. Famously known as one of the best beaches to surf in the world, it makes for an excellent location to catch the sunrise as well. While this requires you to wake up relatively early, you won't be alone as the surfers in the area rise early as well, to catch the best waves at dawn.

4

Trincomalee and Pasikuda

Trincomalee and Pasikuda both offer some of the most beautiful beaches on the island, with relatively short distances to small islands nearby as well. Whether it's on one of these islands or while you're swimming in the sea, a sunrise here is not a memory you will ever forget. You'll definitely want to stay here and there are plenty of hotels in Pasikuda. Sri Lanka is known for its wonderful hospitality and this area is no different. Amaya Beach is one of the hotels in the area.

5

Galle Fort

The Galle Fort is one of the most popular attractions in the country; this boasts architecture that has a heavy Dutch influence reminiscent of when the country was under their rule. Witnessing a sunset atop one of the ramparts is one of the biggest attractions that many tourists and locals alike fondly seek.

6

Sigiriya

Sigiriya, also known as the Lion Rock, is a massive fortress built by an ancient king of Sri Lanka. While the fortress has lost a lot of its original design implementations, there still are many that remain, from wall murals to water fountains and so on. As such, many tourists and locals climb this rock to witness these historic artworks and to also catch a wondrous sunset that is a treat for your eyes.
