Signs That Say It's Time to Get Spectacles - Make Your Eye Care a Top Priority

If you experience any one of the symptoms such as eye strain, frequent headaches, blurry or double vision, a visit to an optometrist or an ophthalmologist.

1

Frequent Headaches and/or Eye Strain

One of the primary symptoms of failing eyesight are frequent headaches which are usually caused by the eyes straining to focus. This is a symptom that should not be ignored for continued straining can lead to a further reduction in the quality of sight. It is also an opportune symptom especially for those who do not feel like there is a change in their eyesight. Some people might not get a headache, but instead feel their eyes straining or experience eye fatigue. This is also usually a sign which indicates that a visit to one of the opticians in Sri Lanka is necessary.

2

Farsightedness

As you age, one of the most common failures in eyesight results in farsightedness i.e. where close up vision is blurred. It is a condition called Hyperopia. Hyperopia occurs due to certain imperfections in the eye or the retina as well as due to diabetes, tumours and certain types of medication. Hyperopia can be tackled by using glasses or contact lenses, and in some cases require surgery. A visit to a local optician such as Vision Care Optical Services will provide you with all the information you require in treating conditions such as Hyperopia.

3

Near - sightedness

The opposite of farsightedness is a condition called Myopia i.e. near - sightedness. This condition is usually seen in younger persons where close objects are clearly seen but as objects become further and further away, the vision deteriorates and blurs. Those suffering from Myopia will find looking at distant objects as well as movie theatre screens a bit difficult because the image is not sharp and is blurred. As Myopia becomes more and more advanced, it can lead to eye conditions such as cataracts (requiring cataract surgery), glaucoma and even retinal detachment.

4

Difficulty in Seeing at Night

If you notice having a difficulty in seeing at night when such difficulty was not there before, it is a sign that you should certainly make a visit to an eye doctor. Another sign that you should do so is if you see a halo surrounding artificial lights. These symptoms could indicate a serious condition and require immediate treatment.

5

Inability to See Objects Up Close as well as at a Distance

Astigmatism is a condition where one has a difficulty in seeing objects up close as well as at a distance. This condition usually arises due to an error in the eye which causes the light not to evenly fall on the retina. This condition is usually accompanied by other symptoms such as headaches and eye fatigue. There are two types of Astigmatism, namely, regular Astigmatism and irregular Astigmatism. This condition can be diagnosed by conducting an eye examination. Treatment is usually via glasses and contact lenses while, in some cases, refractive surgery is also required.
