5 useful things for your car rental

1. Additional Driver

Adding a person on your contract is always beneficial as it can be done for a small fee or even at no cost at all, depending of the rental conditions. But the reason to add a driver on your rental contract is to give yourself the time to rest from the road while the second driver takes the wheel. A road trip with someone is always more enjoyable and keeps you from falling asleep if driving at night for a long period of time. Although, you can as long as you're not the designated driver.

2. GPS

Smartphones are the most dominant technological tool we use in our daily life. And when it comes to driving to certain places, the map feature is definitely a must have to stay on the right track.
Most of us don't see the point in having a GPS since the phone's app can do the trick. However, your phone is a multi-function device and will consume a lot of your mobile data and battery, especially if you run other applications at the same time. Using a GPS will not only save your phone's precious energy bar and mobile data but also give you a more accurate path to follow, because let's be honest, we all lost our way once while getting "rerouting / reconnecting" notification. You're not obligated to ask for a GPS in case you rent a high end car, as it's probable that the car is already equipped with an integrated navigation system.

3. Child seat & Baby booster

For a matter of safety, having a child seat or a baby booster will keep the small ones safe from car accidents, sudden driving maneuvers or watching your child crawl from the back seat to the front while driving on the highway.
Obviously, there's no point in asking for this feature if you don't have any children.

4. Car Delivery & Return

Although this isn't really an accessory, we consider this service really worth it.

As more rental agencies are starting to use this option to ease the renter's mind. Some rental agencies will provide a free lift to the nearest location when a booking has been done but you don't have the possibility to get there. Other rental agencies will offer to deliver the vehicle to your door, and return it for you at the end of the rental period. This will save you from losing time in traffic especially if you're in a hurry.

5. Insurance

Any rental company will offer insurance coverage if you don't have any. The rate starts at $10 and can go up to $30 per day, depending of the rental company. Refusing to opt for this option isn't recommended as a little scratch could cost you more than you think.
Insurance covers a certain amount of the vehicle (deductible) you're renting, a supplement coverage can be purchased to reduce the deductible to $0. Which would be ideal for someone who wants to be conscious clear especially when driving a high end car.

Now you know which options to select before planning your next road trip.
Have a safe ride !
