Chickens is a popular surfing spot located on the beautiful North Male Atoll. If you are curious about the name, Chicken was so named due to the existence of a poultry farm close by. The spot offers breaks that vary from 3 feet to 10 feet and rides can take you distance of about 500 metres. The left handed waves offer one the thrills of barrels towards the latter half of the break. Considered to be one on of the best surf locations across the world, Chickens can usually be easily accessed from a Maldives diving resort.

Honkey's Christened the Best by Avid Surfers

This is one for surfing enthusiasts, Honkey's is found on the island of Thaburudhoo and is considered the best surf spot on the islands by all enthusiastic surfers. Indeed, Honkey's well rewards you with excellent breaks whenever conditions are perfect. There you can surf along left-handed wave that tends to double back on its second run. You may be surprised at times when the inside segment of the wave rises higher than the initial peak while ending in some thrilling barrel runs.

Guru's for All Levels of Surfing Fun

Found on the eastern coast of the South Male Atoll, Guru breaks on a reef. The wave is a wall type that lets professional surfers show off with a few aerial stunts. Accessible from the shore, the spot is a firm favourite amongst the locals of the area, especially since Guru caters to all levels of competence. The area is loads of fun for the enthusiastic surfer, provided you catch it on a good day. Days, when surf is up at Malik's, can be quite the adventure which offers a fast lefthander that can swell to heights of 3 to 10 feet. In addition, you can look forward to riding through a couple of barrels on this wave that is more influenced by wind and swell, rather than the tide.

Tiger Stripes For the Seasoned Surfer

Another surf spot easy to reach from the luxurious South Male Atoll resorts, Tiger Stripes derives its name from the reef that sports a few gorges that look like a tigers stripes. The location is on an inlet that is bordered by the islands of Gadhoo and Gan, while the wave is a left-hander that lacks the hollow's seen at other breaks. However, you will find that Tiger Stripes is a pretty consistent wave.
