5 Things to do in Maldives – Enjoy the best of the islands

Maldives is a beautiful set of islands that are packed with a range of things to do; from snorkeling to coral gardening. Here is a list of things you can do to make your holiday unique and fun!

1

Snorkelling

Snorkelling is a must-do activity for anyone staying in Maldives. Many resorts have their own in-house reef, where you can simply step out of your private water bungalow and spend the rest of the day snorkelling. Be careful not to step on any of the corals as this could damage the reef and everything that lives in it! A majority of coral reef around the world is dying out due to the human activity in the sea and global warming. Snorkelers are advised not to swim too close to any fish or attempt to touch them as this will cause severe distress to the fish, and some may even attack in self-defence. Some resorts in the Maldives have initiated a coral planting project where tourists can help plant corals to aid the growth of coral gardens around the islands.

2

Diving

Scuba diving is a great way to explore the wonders of the deep blue. Be prepared to swim alongside whale sharks, manta rays, sea turtles and even reef sharks. Do keep in mind that these are wild animals, and keeping a safe distance is a must to ensure the safety of both the animal and yourself. Always listen to your scuba diving instructor. Before diving, you will have to get a PADI diving certificate, offered by a number of resorts.

3

Spa

Almost every resort has their own spa, offering a plethora of treatments. If you're looking for luxury in Maldives, holidays organized by tour agencies such as Black Kite Travel will add the best spa experiences for you. Maldives is the first to have an underwater spa – and you can enjoy ultimate relaxation while watching the colourful marine creatures swimming past!

4

Beach

Travellers to the Maldives visit the islands for the MAIN reason of heading to the beach and spending all day laying on a bed of soft white sand or enjoying a refreshing swim. Swimwear such as bikinis are allowed on private beaches, however, if you're island hopping or visiting the capital city, you must make sure to cover up before heading to the beach, as swimwear is not allowed on public beaches.

5

Experiences

You can enjoy a variety of experiences while in Maldives, from dining on a secluded island to paddle boarding or submarine diving. Destination dining is a popular concept in the islands as travellers are eager to enjoy a romantic dinner on a private set of beach strip, or even on their own island! The Maldives is also popular for honeymooners and for those who wish to have a beach wedding, as the strikingly blue waters and blindly white sand create the perfect backdrop for wedding photographs. If you're travelling with elders or kids who aren't capable of snorkelling and diving but still love to explore the wonders of the sea, submarine diving is your best option. Enjoy the comforts of staying dry and safe while submerged 40 metres below surface level.
